why, from a stats point of view, that Mac and Linux were still trailing far behind Windows.
“It all revolves around killer
apps,” pipes up one of the tech heads. “The problem with both Apple and Linux is that neither OS has a compelling killer app driving the
user base.”
The conversation then went off on to discuss apps such as Photoshop and AutoCAD and how with Windows you have a
single unified platform that’ll run almost any professional grade package that you can think of, while with Mac and Linux your choices are

CanSecWest security research conference are thinking about giving hackers another shot at cracking the Mac. Only this time,
they're looking to broaden the field.
Last year, show organizers invited attendees to hack into a Macintosh laptop with the
successful hacker winning the computer and a cash prize. But this year, they're talking about giving attendees three targets to choose from. "We're
thinking of having a contest where we have Vista and OS X and Linux ... and see which one goes first," said Dragos Ruiu, the principal organizer of
CanSecWest.

Microsoft's Network Access Protection platform is being extended to Linux and the Mac in heterogeneous network environments through third-party
products.
The Redmond, Wash. software maker announced at its TechEd IT Forum, here on Nov. 13, that UNETsystem will release Linux
and Macintosh versions of its Anyclick for NAP (Network Access Protection) product next year.
Avenda Systems will release the
Avenda Linux Network Access Protection Agent, which extends NAP technology to network endpoints running Linux, while Celestix Networks has developed
an appliance for delivering the NAP policy-enforcement platform. These new appliances will hit the market shortly after Windows Server 2008 is
released in February 2008.

Microsoft Corporation recently announced plans to release a patch to reduce the risk of a new kind of Web-based security vulnerability, but security
researchers say that other operating systems are probably at risk too. Nathan McFeters, a security researcher with Ernst & Young Global Limited, is
one of the researchers who has been studying the problem most closely. He hopes to present more details on how Linux and Mac OS X may also be
susceptible to what are known as Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) protocol handler flaws at the Toorcon hacking conference, being held next week in
San Diego. Although McFeters admitted he had not yet found a way to run unauthorized code on Unix-based operating systems, he and his fellow
researchers have discovered a number of issues that looked like they could be grounds for further research.

According to several sources in contact with MacRumors.com, Mac OS X 10.6 Build 10A432 has been designated as the Golden Master. This build is the
final release out of the development team and will likely be the final shipping version. Mac OS X 10.6, or Snow Leopard, represents a series of
changes to the operating system for increased performance over Mac OS 10.5 or Leopard. Technologies include Grand Central Dispatch and OpenCL and now
most system applications will be 64-bit. Snow Leopard is also the first Mac OS release without PowerPC support.

Hell has not frozen over and pigs aren't flying in the sky, Microsoft has just released 20,000 lines of device driver code to the Linux community.
Company officials admitted the move was "a break from the ordinary" but were quick to note this is the first time Microsoft has released code
directly to the Linux community. The code will be available to the Linux community and customers and is expected to enhance the performance of the
Linux operating system when virtualized on Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V or Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V.
