28.02.2007Big U.S. Internet Providers To Speed Up P2P Transfers
Silicon Alley Insider: The biggest U.S. Internet service providers, which include the largest phone and cable companies, will roll out updates to
their network over the next two months that promise to make some peer-to-peer traffic faster and more efficient, we have learned.
The results won't be immediate for consumers or ISPs, but the updates could make P2P downloads faster or video streams better over time. And just
as important, the updates could someday save service providers money on bandwidth and capex -- which their investors would welcome. The upgrades could
also potentially rejuvate the peer-to-peer content delivery industry, which -- despite high expectations -- hasn't been able to win much business
from big media clients.

13.11.2008Microsoft Investigates Blocked Patch Updates in XP
Microsoft officials say they are investigating reports that files the company deployed this summer prevent Windows XP users who run a built-in
"repair" function from installing as many as 80 of the company's latest security patches.
"We are aware of reports about
customers not being able to download some updates from Windows Update when using the latest version of the Windows Update client and after
reinstalling Windows XP system files from CD," a Microsoft spokesperson said Sept. 27. "We take this issue very seriously and are investigating the
root cause of this behavior and what options are available to address it."
The issue was brought to light by Scott Dunn, a
writer and associate editor with Windows Secrets Newsletter. According to Dunn, the problem is stealthy updates deployed by Microsoft in July and
August. The files prevent Windows XP users who utilize the repair function from installing recent patches...

16.04.2008Windows 7 beta receiving test updates on Feb. 24th
As various Windows blogs are reporting, Microsoft is issuing some test updates for the official Windows 7 Beta (that's build 7000) this month, on
the 24th. The purpose of these updates is to ensure that Windows 7 is fully capable of being issued online updates, and to help the Windows 7 check
for any problems or bugs. The updates themselves will not automatically be install, but yet the user will be notified of these and will be offered if
they wish to download them. The updates serve no purpose except for testing, and this will be clearly labeled that they are for testing purposes only.

02.01.2006Microsoft release Windows 7 application compatibility update
Following on from the Internet Explorer 8 update that Microsoft released for Windows 7 Beta a day ago, another update has been released targeting
application compatibility. Judging by these two updates released, Microsoft is progressing nicely, and the most recent update targets mainly games
that did not run before hand, or had to be opened via compatibility-mode. Interestingly, Microsoft didn't state which applications were targeted
in this update, but it is of no doubt that users will find out soon enough. If you're currently having problems with gaming, or have had problems
with it, in the Windows 7 Beta, install these updates and post in the comments to show which games now work, or still don't.

27.02.2009Microsoft honing its 'better together' story for Windows 7 and Office 14
Now that the Windows 7 Beta and
Office 14 alpha are both out there, word is beginning to
trickle out about some of the ways the two are being designed to "work better together."
Microsoft isn’t planning to
integrate Win 7 and O14 to anywhere near the degree that it is integrating Windows Live and Win 7, sources say. But officials are looking for ways
that users who buy both of these new products will be able to take advantage of how O14 “lights up” on Win 7.

07.02.2009Microsoft to release six security updates next week
Microsoft will release six
groups of security patches
next week, fixing bugs in the
latest versions of Excel,
Windows XP, Vista, and Windows
Server 2003. Online criminals
will typically e-mail the
victim with a maliciously
encoded Office attachment
that, once opened, gives the
hacker access to the victim's
computer. Microsoft isn't
releasing further details on
the flaws it's fixing until
Tuesday. Three other
less-critical updates are also
planned for next week's
"Patch Tuesday" security
fixes. They include
"important" updates for
Microsoft Publisher 2007 and
Windows XP Service Pack 2 as
well as a fix for Windows
Vista. In descending order of
severity, Microsoft rates
updates as critical,
important, moderate, or
low.

06.07.2007Windows Live OneCare changes Automatic Updates
Amid reports that Windows Live OneCare changes settings in Windows Update to allow for automatic installation of important updates, the official word
from Microsoft is that this is by design. When first installing OneCare, the setup informs the user that proceeding will change computer settings to
automatically download and install important updates from Microsoft Update. Settings for recommended and optional updates are not changed. Even during
Tune-up, OneCare checks, and then prompts the user if there are missing software updates or if Automatic Updates settings have been changed.
“ OneCare is built for people who dont want to worry about protecting and maintaining their PC. This behavior is by design and is not unique
to the latest version of OneCare. It helps ensure that your computer continues to receive important updates as soon as possible after they are
released. We are evaluating user feedback and will be revisiting how we communicate the installation details of Windows Live OneCare as we are
continually working to improve that experience. In addition, OneCare was built with privacy in mind, and Microsoft takes that very seriously –
every new feature or setting change is reviewed and approved by Microsoft’s privacy experts .”
