Microsoft Not Discussing Windows 7, Office 14
Now that Vista and Office 2007 are officially out the door, Windows enthusiasts have been busy scrounging up what they can about the next versions of both products. Not much has turned up besides code-names and potential features, but a number of blog posts prompted Microsoft to say publicly that it's not saying anything.

Microsoft is 30 years old today! have a look at the Microsoft Timeline
It's hard to believe that Microsoft is already 30 years old. The company that made Redmond, Washington, a household name was actually founded in 1975 in another city by two young Seattle men, one of whom was a college dropout. From this inauspicious beginning came an equally improbable vision: A personal computer on every desk and in every home. Thirty years later, it seems so obvious. But at the time, when only a handful of people knew what a personal computer was, it was a great leap of faith and daring.

Office 14 to be named Microsoft Office System 2009?
Microsoft is currently developing the successor to Office 2007, Office codenamed "14". There has been little to no information on the upcoming
Office version and many have speculated we might not see the product until 2010. Microsoft failed to provide any solid information at last years PDC,
choosing to focus on its Office Live offerings. Eagled eyed Microsoft enthusiast and blogger Stephen Chapman has spotted what appears to be an
internal software roadmap from Microsoft. The roadmap reveals a milestone of year end 2009 but the dates aren't very clear: In the roadmap you
can see that Office 14 is clearly identified as Microsoft Office System 2009.

there's a 'G' to obviously signify Grava, so does this mean we're looking at a standalone Grava application or a conceptual idea for
how the interface of Office might change to signify the user is currently using Grava?

Despite Windows 7's release looming over the horizon, ZDNet has stated that Steve Ballmer himself said, "Office 14 will not be this year," in an

could possibly be named on release. Many people thought that Microsoft would time the new Office revision along with Windows 7's release, as many
businesses prefer to upgrade to a new OS and a new Office suite at the same time, but Ballmer has dashed all thoughts of this happening.

'Office 14' to be more Web-friendly, Gates says
Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates talked publicly for the first time on Monday about the next big Office release, code-named Office 14, which he said will
give users new ways to access their applications online.
Microsoft won't provide the full functionality of Office online, but it
will offer limited capabilities to view and edit the data in Office applications. It already does this for its Outlook e-mail client with a product
called Outlook Web Access, and it will offer similar capabilities for other applications in Office 14, Gates said in a speech at the Microsoft Office
System Developer Conference in San Jose, California.
"Outlook Web Access is not the full version of Office, but if you want to
go into a kiosk or an Internet cafe and browse and connect, it gives you plenty of functionality," he said. "As we look at all the modules , we have in mind the equivalent of Outlook Web Access," Gates said.

Maybe we'll see Win 7 and Office 14 launch together, after all
It's hard to know what to believe any more, with Microsoft's new policy of telling

and, admittedly, some guesswork on my part pointing to Microsoft launching Windows 7 and Office 14 together later this fall.

Beta releases have become a great way to discover potentialy unannounced products by snooping around in the files that accompany the beta. Ed Bott
did said snooping and is now claiming that Office 14 will ship in 32-bit and 64-bit flavors. Located within the Migwiz.xml file shows the code
extensions that prove that a 64-bit version does exist. This is great news for users that can take advantage of the 64-bit flavor and should come
as welcomed news that Microsoft is expanding support for 64-bit. One day soon we will hopefully be able to drop 32-bit forever.
