22.01.2009IE8 - Not 'till 2009
Microsoft will issue one more beta of IE8 before releasing it later than its planned date of the end of 2008.
The next beta will
essentially be the Release Candidate (end of the beta period) which will arrive in Q1 2009.
Microsoft says: "We want the technical
community of people and organizations interested in Web browsers to take this update as a strong signal that IE8 is effectively complete and done."
They state that they will be "very selective" in what changes they make before the final release, and that they will be very clear
about any changes they
do make.
No final release date has been set, but we can expect it not too long after the shipment of the
RC version.
In the meantime, Microsoft encourages developers and end-users to continue beta testing the current Beta 2.

The IE8 beta 2 support page has been updated again and the support for IE8 pre-released versions has now been bumped to until March 31st, 2009. This
could indicate that the final product may be released during April. Dean Hachamovitch, General Manager, Internet Explorer had officially announced
earlier that there will be one more public update of IE8 in the first quarter of 2009, followed up by the final release. Currently, the IE8 Beta
testers can download the latest partner build and the rest can download the Beta 2 which is available to public. The current IE build version the
beta testers can download is 8.0.6001.18344 and the one available in the leaked Windows 7 Beta 1 is 8.0.7000.0.

Internet Explorer 8 beta participants today received a surprising e-mail about 'IE8 Partner Build' released to the IE8 Technical Beta to test
and find issues. This build represents a preview of IE8's progress and is best used to verify issues fixed since releasing Beta 2. While Microsoft
believes it to be of adequate quality for you to use, is not as extensively tested as a milestone build, so it is not meant for the general public but
only for testing purposes. Microsoft is not providing any support for this build and henceforth just like in transition from Beta 1 to Beta 2, if you

With Beta 2 of the Web browser due next month, Microsoft is looking to sign up more official testers for Internet Explorer 8, saying it's the only
way for individuals to directly file bug reports.
Like with Beta 1, the second beta of IE8 will be made available for public download.
Still, there's good reason to become a participant in Microsoft's IE8 Technical Beta program. In addition to filing a direct bug reports, official
testers can be invited to other beta programs, such as Windows 7 or Office 14.
In addition, Microsoft occasionally makes beta builds
available to testers that it does not release to the public, offering a chance to try out and provide feedback on new features in advance. With the
final release of IE8 due later this year, it's likely that interim builds will follow Beta 2.

31.07.2008IE8 JavaScript Benchmarks -- It's faster
One of the things immediately noticeable in the latest beta (beta 2) of Internet Explorer 8 was how much faster it is. I thought I'd see for myself
how much faster it
really is by running a JavaScript benchmark, since that is one thing that really has slowed down IE in comparison to its
competitors. Google has put
a benchmark it used while creating their
Chrome browser live on the web, but it also lets us see how IE8 stacks up against its
predecessor. So I ran it.
I ran the test on a 2.8GHz P4 running Windows Vista.
* IE7 benched in at 24, 23
and 29 for an average of 28.6
* IE8 received 37, 40 and 40 for an average of 39
As you can see, IE8 is about 36% faster than IE7 in JavaScript! While it's a good improvement, we can still see that work needs
to be done, and will surely increase with every beta release we see of IE8...

21.11.2008IE8 via Automatic Update for users running IE6 or IE7
Microsoft plans to distribute Internet Explorer 8 to computers running previous versions of IE (IE 6 or IE 7) via Automatic Updates starting from the
3rd week of April. The update will be rolled out gradually from a small user base to large number of users. The update will be a 'high
priority' update for systems running Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 and is an 'important' update for Windows Vista and Windows Server
2008. The final version of IE8 was distributed via automatic update recently to users still running pre-release versions of IE8, Beta 2/RC1.
Organizations can use the IE8 Blocker Toolkit to block automatic delivery of IE8.

Citing heavy customer feedback, Microsoft officials as high up as Bill Gates himself revealed today that the next public beta of IE8 won't be going
home with Tech·Ed attendees this year.
Though the beta roadmap for Microsoft's next release of Internet Explorer has never been quite
clear, one of the key "takeaways" from Bill Gates' keynote address at Tech·Ed 2008 in Orlando this morning -- other than this week's pending
release of Silverlight 2.0 Beta 2 -- is the fact that testers and developers won't get a chance to see the next public beta of IE8 until late this
summer, at the earliest.
The official verification of this news came on the IE developers' blog this morning, using the euphemistic
language Microsoft has historically reserved for delaying a product or beta launch...or conveying any other sort of bad news.

TechARP has predicted that Microsoft will reach IE8's RTM milestone in March during the last 2 weeks. TechARP expects so because Microsoft plans
to announce the final details of the IE8 RTM schedule and available language versions by March 5, 2009. The malaysian website also expects Microsoft
to determine a time frame for the public release of IE8 via Windows Update by March 8. There was a time gap of 8 weeks between IE7's RC1 and its
public release. A similar 8-weeks time limit applied to IE8's RC1 in January suggests the final build's availability around March 23 according
to TechARP.

Google has commented on our IE8 Beta 1 improvements, and we’ve made IE8 even faster since then. Some of the tests we have done show pure JScript
performance improvements up to 2.5 times. We also measured the performance gains on common Gmail operations, like loading the inbox (34%), opening a
conversation (45%) and opening a thread (27%) compared to IE7. Thus far, tweaks to the JScript engine have contributed to improve IE8’s
performance on the SunSpider benchmarking suite by 400% compared to IE7.
The second area in which we are invested heavily in IE8 is in
improvements to our memory usage. To date we have fixed just under 400 separate memory leaks in Internet Explorer. For users, these changes reduce the
amount of memory consumed by IE, improve our startup times, speed up navigating between pages, and help IE remain stable for longer periods of time.
As we started building IE8 it was clear that we could do more to take advantage of the increasing prevalence of high bandwidth connections. Two key
improvements we made with IE8 were to unblock downloads in the presence of external scripts and to increase the number of parallel connections per
server that we support.
