it's rumored that Microsoft could be readying some new beta bits for connect testers in the coming weeks. The RC1 build will initially be offered

26.08.2006Windows Server 2008 RC1 with Hyper-V Beta Build Clarification
Just a quick note to anyone that plans on testing the new Windows Server 2008 RC1 with Hyper-V Beta. The build Microsoft posted
here is in
fact a much newer build than either the original Server 2008 RC1 or Vista SP1 RC1. While the original RC1 was Build 6001.17051 for Server 2008 and
6001.17052 for Vista SP1, the new Server 2008 RC1 with Hyper-V beta is substantially newer at 6001.17119 and may even contain further
stability/performance improvements to the actual OS so it may be worth checking it out even if you don't intend to test the Hyper-V bits. Also note
that due to Hyper-V being a 64-Bit OS only option, there is no 32-Bit build available of the newer Server 2008 RC1.

Microsoft plans to distribute Internet Explorer 8 to computers running previous versions of IE (IE 6 or IE 7) via Automatic Updates starting from the

2008. The final version of IE8 was distributed via automatic update recently to users still running pre-release versions of IE8, Beta 2/RC1.
Organizations can use the IE8 Blocker Toolkit to block automatic delivery of IE8.

12.08.2006Silverlight 1.0 RC1 Now Available
As indicated in a previous
post, we're homing in on the
launch of Silverlight 1.0, and
today marks another milestone
with the launch of the first
release candidate.
Since the beta we released
at MIX, we've fixed
approximately 2000 bugs and
work items and we're now
feature complete with the
final JavaScript-based API.
This version of the runtime is
vastly more stable than the
beta release: our stress test
runs show improvements of two
or three orders of magnitude
in many cases, and the product
demonstrates the polish one
might expect from a near-final
release.
Along
with the 1.0 RC1 release,
we've also refreshed the 1.1
bits. We've not exposed any
significant changes in the
.NET extensions, but the 1.1
"alpha refresh" includes the
same core runtime as 1.0 RC1.
A note on installation: if you
have the beta release on your
machine, there's no need to
uninstall - simply run the RC1
installer and it will
overwrite the existing
binaries on your machine.

07.09.2006Windows Vista RC1 Download
Page Discovered
Only hours after Microsoft
released Windows Vista build
5536 to the public, their RC1
download page has been
discovered. The RC1 build,
which was, according to Paul
Thurrott, finalized yesterday,
is most likely
not there
yet, and since the download
ISO is approximately 3.12 GB,
it appears to be the Beta 2
version.
The page
is about the same as the
pre-RC1 download page but
removes the references to the
100000 copies limit, and, of
course, replaces the pre-RC1
terms for RC1.
Microsoft is expected to
make Windows Vista's first
Release Candidate available
broadly in early september,
and is already preparing it,
just after releasing its
preview build.

04.12.2008Rumored New Vista plans

other rumors which said RC1

in this case, build 5520,

27.01.2009Will XP SP3 Slow Vista`s Adoption?
Analysts say that the more secure, stable and reliable Windows XP is, the less reason businesses have to upgrade to Vista in a hurry. The upcoming
release of Windows XP Service Pack 3 will further slow the rate of business adoption of Windows Vista by extending the life of the older operating
system, some analysts say.
Microsoft quietly released Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate 2 to the masses Feb. 19. But the company
finds itself in a Catch-22, given its need to provide comprehensive security to protect its large installed base of business customers still running
XP while, at the same time, encouraging those customers to upgrade to the new Vista operating system. But the more secure, stable and reliable XP is,
the less reason they have to upgrade in a hurry.
