I hate Macs

Unless you have been walking around with your eyes closed, and your head encased in a block of concrete, with a blindfold tied round it, in the dark - unless you have been doing that, you surely can't have failed to notice the current Apple Macintosh campaign starring David Mitchell and Robert Webb, which has taken over magazines, newspapers and the internet in a series of brutal coordinated attacks aimed at causing massive loss of resistance.

Microsoft is 30 years old today! have a look at the Microsoft Timeline

It's hard to believe that Microsoft is already 30 years old. The company that made Redmond, Washington, a household name was actually founded in 1975 in another city by two young Seattle men, one of whom was a college dropout. From this inauspicious beginning came an equally improbable vision: A personal computer on every desk and in every home. Thirty years later, it seems so obvious. But at the time, when only a handful of people knew what a personal computer was, it was a great leap of faith and daring.

Bang On: It's easy to hate the Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 has had quite a poor record when it comes to build quality. My experience with Microsoft's wonder console does little to change what so many people already know: The Xbox 360 is more fragile than paper-mâché in a rain storm. It's almost as though simply glancing at the console in the wrong way can send it into cardiac arrest. It's just so easy to hate it. I've already complained about my excruciatingly frustrating experience with Xbox support, so we can all rejoice in the fact that this tale does not include any dealings with them. Working for a major retailer, I've had the extended warranty, from the store, since day one.

Facebook kills anti-Muslim group

Facebook has disabled an anti-Islamic group called "I Hate Muslims in Oz" after the issue was brought to their attention by CNet's Chris Matyszczyk. Facebook's stance toward Holocaust-denying groups is more ambivalent. The company's terms of service prohibit content that is "hateful" or "threatening", and, according to Matyszczyk, Facebook does not consider simply denying that the Holocaust happened to be "hateful" or "threatening". Facebook's Barry Schnitt clarifies the situation: "We disabled the 'I Hate Muslims in Oz' group a day or so ago because it contained an explicit statement of hate.

EU MPs to ISPs: Take hate sites offline

A group of European Parliament members have submitted a draft declaration to the European Parliament requiring ISPs to better monitor the content of the sites they host in order to keep hate speech off the web. The five European (from the UK, Hungary and Germany) MPs sponsoring the declaration would like to see racism and hate speech banished from the Internet completely, starting with Europe. Should European ISPs not go along, the MPs will try to get the European Commission to enact legislation on the issue. The MPs hope the EC uses the Safer Internet Plus program, which intends to " promote safer use of the Internet " while fighting against " illegal content and content unwanted by " end users.

Microsoft's worst run project: Windows 2000

Microsofts Iain McDonald, director of project management for Windows Server, says the worst run project at the software giant was Windows 2000.

That tidbit comes from an interview Mary Jo Foley just posted.

To folks that arent familiar with the intricacies of Microsoft this revelation is a bit of a stunner. Was Windows 2000 really a worse run project than Vista, which had a do-over in the middle of the project? Windows ME? That couldnt have been so hot. When you ponder all of Microsofts worst hits“and the projects behind them“Windows 2000 doesnt instantly register. In fact, Ed Bott gave Windows 2000 a 9 on a 10 scale in his rating of Windows versions...

10 Warning Signs of Project Failure

Unless you are in a mature industry such as banking or insurance, where information is the life-blood of what you do, chances are you will be familiar with at least some of these 10 project management failings put together by Robert Francis Group analyst Mimi Ho.

"One, they're right on the button and two, if you take a look at the large majority of them, it all has to do with project planning and early stages of analysis that companies like to jump over," said Jeff Monteforte, owner of Exential, an independent project management consultancy in Cleveland, Ohio.

In other words, when IT projects fail it rarely is a result of the technology. At its core, project management is all about people.

Bill Gates on Project Natal and Windows

Project Natal was unveiled as a revolutionary new gesture-based controller for the Xbox 360 during this year's E3 games expo, but while you may be looking forward to using it to control games in your living room it could also find its way into your office, according to Bill Gates. In an interview with CNET News, the Microsoft chairman and former CEO Bill Gates revealed that the company is looking at ways of using the Project Natal hardware with Windows PCs through the same "software libraries and applications." The ideas started in Microsoft Research, which is the "crown jewel in terms of always feeding neat new things into Microsoft" in the eyes of Gates.
