Gizmodo tracked down Chuck Anderson, the creator of Windows 7's box art, default wallpaper and login screen. In an exclusive overview of the evolution of the Windows 7 wallpaper and login screen, the gadget lovers managed to secure some rare development shots of how Microsoft came to the wallpaper that is now used worldwide. Chuck Anderson is a 20 something digital media artist living in the US. Both the login screen and wallpapers took approximately four months, start to finish according to Gizmodo. They were achieved by a mix of pen and paper, wacom tablet and Photoshop.

Asus has debuted an ultra thin netbook S121 running Windows 7 and the worlds largest 512GB solid state drive(SSD). The S121 netbook is equipped with a 1.33GHz Intel Atom microprocessor and uses their touch mode software on Windows 7. Nokia joins the netbook world

Nokia announced today it has joined the race in bringing a new netbook to the market offering up to 12 hours of battery life with 3G ready Internet. The small, lightweight and portable mini-laptop is said to weight in at 1.25 kilograms and comes with the backing of Microsoft's Windows operating system, most likely Windows 7. The mini-laptop or netbook will ship with WiFi-enabled ready for Internet usage. The netbook will also have an integrated A-GPS working on Ovi Maps allows for pinpoint navigation; the ultra lightweight, aluminum chassis netbook comes equipped with a 12 hour battery life for maximum usage.

Windows 7 build 7232 leaks, with new wallpaper

It's that time again, another week and another Windows 7 build leak. They are really starting to flow now leading up to RTM and this time there are changes to report. Last week we had 7229 leak and this week it's build 7232.winmain.090610-1900 that has wriggled out of Microsoft's Redmond HQ and is being distributed across the net. The most obvious visual change is that a new default wallpaper has been set and there is no more betta fish. The new wallpaper is named harmony. Windows 7 is still on track for a July RTM, and it's possible that it may even RTM by the end of June.

Micro-Star International (MSI) is planning to launch the Wind U120 with a built-in 3.5G module in November this year. The netbook will feature Intel's Atom N270 processor, 1GB memory, 120GB hard drive and Windows XP and be priced around NT$18,000 (US$552) in a choice of white or black, according to notebook industry sources. With the addition of the new netbook, the company's total netbook shipments will have a chance to break 500,000 units in 2008, and may reach 600,000 if MSI's cooperation with telecommunications operators goes well.

Microsoft confirms no Windows 7 restrictions on netbooks

Microsoft announced that they have removed the netbook restrictions that previously prevented users from installing any version of Windows 7 on their netbook. The lifted restriction means users can install Windows 7 starter on a netbook, and that the three application restriction has been removed as per consumer's request. "OEMs and ODMs have the choice to install any version of Windows on a netbook," a Microsoft UK spokesperson said. " Starter is an entry version and doesn't have many of the consumer or business features. The three application limit isn't there anymore." Windows 7 Starter and Home Basic variety only come in 32bit versions and are missing a variation of features from the higher end versions.
