I hate Macs
Unless you have been walking around with your eyes closed, and your head encased in a block of concrete, with a blindfold tied round it, in the dark - unless you have been doing that, you surely can't have failed to notice the current Apple Macintosh campaign starring David Mitchell and Robert Webb, which has taken over magazines, newspapers and the internet in a series of brutal coordinated attacks aimed at causing massive loss of resistance.

The Xbox 360 has had quite a poor record when it comes to build quality. My experience with Microsoft's wonder console does little to change what
so many people already know: The Xbox 360 is more fragile than paper-mâché in a rain storm. It's almost as though simply glancing at
the console in the wrong way can send it into cardiac arrest. It's just so easy to hate it. I've already complained about my excruciatingly
frustrating experience with Xbox support, so we can all rejoice in the fact that this tale does not include any dealings with them. Working for a
major retailer, I've had the extended warranty, from the store, since day one.

or "threatening". Facebook's Barry Schnitt clarifies the situation: "We disabled the 'I Hate Muslims in Oz' group a day or so ago
because it contained an explicit statement of hate.

14.08.2005MS Research project solves mobile touch screen problems
A computer science
student and a developer at
Microsoft Research have
created a technique designed
to make it easier to select
items on a mobile-phone screen
with a finger and not a tiny
pointed stylus.
The development comes just
before Apple Inc.'s much
anticipated iPhone, with its
touch screen, hits the market
in June.
The
Microsoft Research project,
called Shift, automatically
displays an image on the
screen above where users place
their finger showing the area
under the users' finger. The
image is circular and includes
a small X. By toggling the tip
of the finger, users can move
the X to place it on top of
the item they want to choose.
Lifting the finger from the
screen selects the item. ..

13.08.200810 Warning Signs of Project Failure
Unless you are in a mature industry such as banking or insurance, where information is the life-blood of what you do, chances are you will be familiar
with at least some of these 10 project management failings put together by Robert Francis Group analyst Mimi Ho.
"One, they're
right on the button and two, if you take a look at the large majority of them, it all has to do with project planning and early stages of analysis
that companies like to jump over," said Jeff Monteforte, owner of Exential, an independent project management consultancy in Cleveland, Ohio.
In other words, when IT projects fail it rarely is a result of the technology. At its core, project management is all about people.

23.10.2007Windows Live PhotoZoom Alpha: Silverlight powers new Microsoft Live Labs project

to Matt Augustine of the
PhotoZoom team, "PhotoZoom is

brings the zooming
capabilities first shown
during the Silverlight demos
in the Mix07 keynote to
consumer photography." Note
that the currently available
alpha/beta builds of

project being released is

16.12.2005MS-ManiC: Microsoft steps up its multicore work
Microsoft officials have been talking up, as of late, the need for some fundamental changes in software design and development to accommodate the
shift to many cores on client systems. There are several Microsoft Research projects focusing on various aspects of the many-core challenge. The
newest and seemingly most far-reaching of these is MS-ManiC.
According to a new page on the Microsoft Research site, the
MS-ManiC (Memory Systems for Many Cores) projectis focused on
designing scalable memory system architectures for future many-core processors. The memory system is not only one of the major performance bottlenecks
in chip multiprocessors, but its design can lead to serious energy inefficiency, unpredictability, and security holes. Our goal is to design a
scalable and balanced memory system using a holistic hardware/software approach. We are interested in designing high-performance, energy-efficient,
and secure memory system that at the same time provides quality of service to applications utilizing it.
Sounds ambitious. What form would such a
memory system take and when might it move from research to a product group? No word. In fact, theres very little information (yet) on the MS-ManiC
site, other than a link to a newly published whitepaper, Memory Performance Attacks: Denial of Memory Service in Multi-Core Systems, (which is part
of the proceedings of the 16th USENIX Security Symposium from August 2007).
