Hubble Images Screen Saver

Take your mind to the heavens every time your computer is left idle. The Hubble Images Screen Saver displays images of nebulae and celestial bodies, captured by the world-famous telescope.

There's no other information concerning the images than the names, so if you wish to learn more about spacey sights with names like "Eta Carinae" or "NGC-3603," you'll have to look elsewhere. But the full-screen NASA photographs will jettison you to places far removed from this mudane, terrestrial existence.

Google street view car hits a bridge

Google street view is not only helpful but it has produced many quality blunders that keep us coming back for more. In the images below you can clearly see the bridge that the driver tried to go under but in the following pictures you see that the attempt resulted in a bent camera rig as the following pictures are looking straight up. 6 must see funnys on Google Maps

Google Street view is a candid look at the environment that surrounds us. The idea of street view is to give the user an idea of what it would look like if they were standing on the street. It's a simple idea that usually results in a great way to get a look at a destination before you arrive. Sometimes, however, the Google cameras capture things that are not so ordinary. Below are six gems that have been unearthed on Google Maps. They are posted in no particular order but all are rare sightings much like the Google van hitting Bambi.

Google must re-shoot all Street View pictures in Japan

Citizens of Japan have won a fight against Google to get them to re-shoot all of the photos taken and shown via Google Street View. Google has also agreed to blur out license plates numbers as well to further adhere to the complaints of the citizens. "We admit that there were concerns about the service. ...

Google Maps street view rips hole in space-time fabric

Google Maps street view is a massive undertaking by Google. The idea of bringing a street level view to almost every major road in the country is nothing to scoff at and then to do it on a global scale is almost unfathomable. While nearly everyone applauds Google's efforts for taking on such a massive project it's only a matter of time until something goes wrong or something gets captured that we all can enjoy. This week it appears that Google has managed to rip a hole in the space-time fabric that we call life. In the two pictures below you can clearly see that a quantum leap has been perfected by Google.

Google Street is coming to Canada

Google will soon be coming to 11 of Canada's largest cities including Halifax, Montreal, Winnipeg and Calgary. The Internet giant will be driving around cities in the coming weeks to map the streets of Canada to include a street-eye view of streets, buildings and their surroundings. The street view will provide users to help locate meeting spots, buildings and a better idea of their destination. With the added bonus of being able to see your own home on Google, many people raise privacy concerns, which Google is ready to handle. Images of people's faces and licence plates will be automatically blurred out, and any requested offensive images will be removed from the web site.

Google Street + Twitter = Stweet?

That's right, Stweet is a mash up between Google Street View and Twitter! Now you can navigate the streets of the world and see who has been there before you and what they've said! Certain Twitter applications can let Twitter your location in co-ordinates. What Stweet does is takes those co-ordinates and determines where in the world you are before dropping your message down on the street. One such applications is TwitterFon. Just as with Twitter initially, the uses may seem few and far between. However, if there is one thing Twitter has showed us, it's that we probably underestimate everything. With such an increase in the locating capabilities of software, it's no surprise that privacy issues are arising.

Japanese group wants Google to stop Street View

Google received another request on Friday to stop its Street View service, this time from a group of Japanese lawyers and professors who say the service violates their right to privacy. Talking to Reuters, Yasuhiko Tajima, a professor of constitutional law at Sophia University in Tokyo, said, "We strongly suspect that what Google has been doing deeply violates a basic right that humans have. It is necessary to warn society that an IT giant is openly violating privacy rights, which are important rights that the citizens have, through this service." Tajima heads the Campaign Against Surveillance Society, a Japanese civilian group that wants Google to stop providing its Japanese Street View service and to delete all saved images.

There are certain things you don't do in your car when your employer is paying you to drive around. One thing people may still do even if they are being paid to drive around is speed; maybe not excessively or on purpose but it happens. If you are paid to drive around with a huge camera recording all your events attached to the roof of your car you should probably obey all traffic laws to the best of your ability. Not so is the case for one Google street view driver who got pulled over by the cops.

Google: "No Trespassing" signs won't stop Street View

Google has once again managed to stir up debate about the existence of privacy in our highly connected culture as it argues that the "No Trespassing" sign in your front yard is just for show.

Back in April, a Pittsburgh couple sued Google for driving up a private road, taking pictures of their house, then posting them for the world to see with Google Maps' Street View feature. At the time, Google argued that pictures and other details of the house were already on the Internet due to its previous sale listing. The company was also quick to point out that the couple compounded the attention drawn to the photos it took by filing a lawsuit instead of using Google's tools for requesting a removal of the images.
