23.6.2009T-Mobile to get its first 3G BlackBerry handset in September
According to Boy Genius Report, mobile network operator T-Mobile U.S.A. may be getting its first 3G BlackBerry in the form of the rumored BlackBerry
Onyx/Driftwood 96XX series handset. Images from CrackBerry.com. Onyx on the left and Gemini on the right. BGR also states that the device will
launch with an optical trackpad, despite not making an appearance in the leaked shots. As evidenced by the other unreleased BlackBerry, the 8520 Curve
or "Gemini", the Canadian handset maker seems to be doing away with the traditional trackballs.

12.05.2009BlackBerry Curve 8520 'Gemini' discovered
Images of the new BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphone have just been leaked for our viewing pleasure. The updated device boasts some interesting new
features from its designers at Research in Motion, which come as an addition to that available on the high street at the moment. Perhaps the most
impressive change is the sudden loss of the trackball which is to be replaced with a touch sensitive 'optical trackball.' Upon a closer
inspection at the pictures, a good portion of the design has also been changed. The LCD protector now extends downwards to incorporate the bar which
contains the selection keys. This streamlining being well received by fans.

02.05.2009Microsoft vies for BI market success
Microsoft has started firing the first volleys in its forthcoming war for the business intelligence space, as it attempts to position itself as a
trusted partner in the enterprise rather than simply as a technology provider.
Although the software giant is coming relatively
late to a market that has been established for more than a decade, it has been making increasingly aggressive noises about business intelligence (BI)
since the end of last year.
The sector's growing importance in Redmond was also highlighted by its decision to host an inaugural
BI event at its headquarters in May, which was attended by 3,000 delegates. This was used as a forum to unveil a coherent BI strategy for the first
time, which revolves around the concept of "BI for the masses".

30.11.2007There is no CableCARD 2.0
With the July 1st CableCARD
mandate right around the
corner, we have really wanted
to know how the cable
companies are going to
continue to provide VOD -- and
other bi-directional services
-- without CableCARD 2.0.
Thanks to our friend
Mari over at ConnectedHome2Go,
we got to spend some time with
Mark DePietro, the Vice
President of Strategy of
Motorola Home and Networks
Mobility, and he filled us in
on some details about
CableCARDs. The most shocking
thing we learned was: there is
no such thing as CableCARD 2.0
-- at least not in the way
that we thought.
Currently 3rd party
CableCARD devices can't get
certified by CableLabs for
bi-directional (CC 2.0) uses,
but it isn't the hardware
that is holding up the works,
but the standard. The CEA and
NCTA just can't come to an
agreement about what should be
required for bi-directional
certification.

15.06.2007Microsoft PerformancePoint Server 2007 Due in September
Microsoft is set to launch a portion of its business intelligence technology platform, PerformancePoint Server 2007, at an event in New York on Sept.
20.
The second piece to Microsoft's BI technology triad, SQL Server 2008 (code-named Katmai), is scheduled to ship in the second
quarter of 2008. The company's third major tech component, Office 2007, is available nowand will be integrated with PerformancePoint Server 2007.
But with the company's BI strategy spread over three major components with a remaining year-long release cycle, will businesses
have the luxury to wait?
In a recent report, IT research firm IDC found that the BI market grew by more than 11 percent in 2006,
with the BI tools market driven by the need for improved CPM (Corporate Performance Management) and, to a lesser extent, compliance software.

23.08.2007Microsoft's (un)secret weapon for winning the BI battle
SQL Server may be one of the most popular databases today, but
Microsoft Corp. nevertheless remains a
laggard in the business intelligence market. It ranked just fifth among BI vendors last year, according to research firm IDC.
But as Microsoft
gets serious about BI,
it has an ace that turns out to have been hiding in plain sight all along...
