Windows XP SP3 Released To Small Group (Updated)
In addition to the
previously
reported Windows Vista SP1
drop to testers, Microsoft
has just recently (few days
ago) dropped a copy of Windows
XP Service Pack 3 in the lap
of the same small group of
testers.
Coming in at less than
350MB, the service pack
includes fixes for over 900
reported problems, some of
which have already been
resolved with post-Service
Pack 2 hotfixes.
For the hardcore
build string collectors, this
build is tagged 5.1.2600.3180
(xpsp.070718-2058) (Thanks
again C).
Given the close proximity
of the two betas we guestimate
both 'packs will be released
simultaneously. We'll let you
know if we hear of a more
solid release date.

08.08.2007Office 2007 SP1 Technical Preview Info
I installed the recently
released
Office 2007
SP1 Technical Preview
update on top of Office 2007
Enterprise Edition running on
Windows Vista Business
Edition. Here's some quick
info about it:
Version:
12.0.6207.1000 (MSO
12.0.6206.1000)
File size: 214MB (exe)
The
Microsoft Office Cache folder
(MSOCache) does not get
updated with any SP1 bits;
only the Program
FilesMicrosoft Office
folder is partially updated.
New files have varying digital
signature dates (as well as
older version numbers for some
of the older files) ranging
from May 30th, 2007 all the
way up to July 23rd, 2007.
Naturally the dates will all
change as this is not the
final build of Office 2007
SP1.
Not
much more to say about it at
the moment as I didn't notice
any usability or user
interface differences on a
quick glance. All in all, a
very smooth update to an
already smooth running Office
suite.

What will advertising will
look like inside Microsoft
Works? To get a better sense
for that, Todd Bishop from the
Seattle Post-Intelligencer
asked Microsoft for visuals.
Here are two examples,

03.08.2007Vista Media Packaging Shots & NY Launch Summary
ActiveWin have posted a few
photos of the DVD packaging,
you can view them
here.
Sidebar Geek's Brandon posted
an extensive summary of the
launch event in New York:
At the event,
Microsoft really went all out
showcasing the kind of
hardware that will make using
Windows Vista rock. There were
areas set up to highlight key
hardware that go hand-in-hand
with Windows Vista and I took
some shots I'd like to
share:

30.01.2007Hackers take first step to the
360
Hackers have taken the
first step towards breaking
the anti-piracy system on
Microsoft's Xbox 360 game
console.
A
group of crackers called Team
PI Coder says it has
discovered the basic workings
of the console's file
system.
The
information has helped the
group dig out the raw data
from the console for 13 Xbox
360 games.
In
response Microsoft said its
console had several security
systems in place that would
prevent pirated games being
played on
it.

RoboImport is a Camera and
CardReader Image Automation

stamp your photos with GPS
coordinates (latitude,
longitude, altitude) based on
GPS receiver logs.

30.10.200614 Personalized Homepages Compared, Feature by Feature
We learned this week that
Pageflakes is adding a social
network, which seems to be the
next evolution of the start
page concept. Meanwhile,
Facebook is looking
increasingly like a startpage.
We thought it was time to
revisit the startpage market,
and see whether the new
features on each site would
convince us to switch.
Ultimately, theres no
best startpage. Netvibes and
Pageflakes are not short on
content, and offer amazing
customization. iGoogle and My
Yahoo are great options if you
already use those services.
Schmedley and yourminis
approach the market uniquely,
and some people swear by them.
We would avoid the
smaller, less featureless
sites, however, especially
those that lack a developer
community: these are the most
likely to fall into disrepair,
forcing you to move house just
as you get settled in.

19.06.2007Microsoft launches new Windows Live Home beta
Yet another bolt out the blue
(
maybe
not), Microsoft just
launched the new Windows Live
Home beta portal. At the
moment it offers only basic
functionality, ie. no
integration, just access to
all the Windows Live services.
Funnily enough, it also links
to the new
Windows Live
Suite, though the page
isn't up yet. Oh dear.

23.11.2006MP3 Sorter 1.1
How can radio DJs so quickly
find tracks when they need
them? It is because all files
are neatly arranged in folders
and the favorite melody can be
found quickly.
MP3
Sorter will help you quickly
and easily arrange and rename
your collection of MP3 files.
All files will be renamed to
have the artist's name and
