Just a quick note to anyone that plans on testing the new Windows Server 2008 RC1 with Hyper-V Beta. The build Microsoft posted
here is in
fact a much newer build than either the original Server 2008 RC1 or Vista SP1 RC1. While the original RC1 was Build 6001.17051 for Server 2008 and
6001.17052 for Vista SP1, the new Server 2008 RC1 with Hyper-V beta is substantially newer at 6001.17119 and may even contain further
stability/performance improvements to the actual OS so it may be worth checking it out even if you don't intend to test the Hyper-V bits. Also note
that due to Hyper-V being a 64-Bit OS only option, there is no 32-Bit build available of the newer Server 2008 RC1.

The IE8 beta 2 support page has been updated again and the support for IE8 pre-released versions has now been bumped to until March 31st, 2009. This
could indicate that the final product may be released during April. Dean Hachamovitch, General Manager, Internet Explorer had officially announced
earlier that there will be one more public update of IE8 in the first quarter of 2009, followed up by the final release. Currently, the IE8 Beta
testers can download the latest partner build and the rest can download the Beta 2 which is available to public. The current IE build version the
beta testers can download is 8.0.6001.18344 and the one available in the leaked Windows 7 Beta 1 is 8.0.7000.0.

According to Reuters, Internet-users in China will be able to download for free approximately 350,000 licensed songs--soon to be more than a
million--through Google. Not only will the Chinese be able to search for songs by artist and song title, but they will also be able to find tunes
based on beats per minute and musical style. The music, by Chinese and foreign artists alike, comes from Sony, Warner, EMI, and Universal--all
companies that have done deals with Google to open up portions of their catalogues for free distribution to anyone with an Internet connection in
China. China contains the highest number of Internet-users, and a great many of them routinely download music, films, and software illegally.

Some very quick info that we came across regarding the latest release of Vista SP1 to testers. As Mary Jo Foley
previously reported, Microsoft have indeed made the latest build of Vista SP1
(6001.16633) available as a standalone update file to testers.
Build: 6.0.6001.16633 (longhorn.070803-1655)
Filename:
windows6.0-kb936330-x86.exe
Size: 684MB
Surprisingly, the update file is in the .exe format. Many (including myself)
were expecting Microsoft to deliver the update for Vista SP1 in the the new Vista/Server 2008-only .msu format used for current Hotfixes.

Microsoft may have inadvertently already answered that exact question. Since the Server 2008 build included with the Hyper-V Beta is a newer compile
(6001.17119) than the originally released Server 2008 RC1 (6001.17051), Microsoft have included an updated EULA which directly mentions RC2:

It looks like Microsoft has posted the final Vista SP1 bits to their
OEM site which is accessible to anyone that registers. The file is a 1.13GB .img which combines the 32-bit and 64-bit update
executables into one image:
Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) is now available for download. Windows Vista SP1 will deliver
improvements and enhancements to existing features that significantly impact customers, but it does not deliver substantial new operating system
features.
Download Windows Vista SP1 here. The download contains Window Vista SP1 for five languages: English, French, German,
Japanese, and Spanish. Note Additional languages will be available soon.
Once you download the Windows Vista SP1 package, you
will need to extract the appropriate .exe file for the language you wish to install.

free and legal songs. With CD sales in free fall and legal downloads yet to fill the gap, the music industry has reluctantly embraced the file-sharing
technology that threatened to destroy it. Qtrax, a digital service announced today, promises a catalogue of more than 25 million songs that users can
download to keep, free and with no limit on the number of tracks. The service has been endorsed by the very same record companies - including EMI,
Universal Music and Warner Music – that have chased file-sharers through the courts in a doomed attempt to prevent piracy. The gamble is that

Vodafone has announced an agreement with record labels Universal, Sony and EMI to offer DRM-free MP3 downloads through its PC and mobile phone
download service. They are set to become the first worldwide mobile operator to sell unprotected music tracks, leaving customers free to listen to
their downloaded music across a myriad of different devices. Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and EMI Music are some of the
world's biggest music labels and, through the deal, will be offering over a million DRM-free tracks. The Vodafone Music store is powered by
RealNetworks and will provide DRM-free downloads across a range of countries, beginning with the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and New Zealand by this

Satellite broadcaster Sky is to take on Apple's iTunes in the digital music marketplace, when it launches its new subscription-based music store
later this month. While users of the service will be limited to one album download a month, music streaming will be ad-free and unlimited. According
to the Press Association, the new service, called Sky Songs, will enable customers to download up to 1 album, or 10 songs, for a £6.49 a month
subscription fee. Although additional songs will cost 65p a track, the service will also allow ad-free streaming of music without any limitations.
The new service will also allow users to download songs for use on any MP3 player - something which iTunes does not allow.
