Intel to take 'Averill' to market as Centrino-like platform
Intel will next year launch its third branded PC platform, after Centrino and Viiv, this time pitched at corporate desktops.
As yet there's no word on the platform's go-to-market brandname, but it will almost certainly be based on Intel's 'Averill' platform. Averill was announced at the chip giant's Developer Forum in March this year for availability in 2006.
Averill is based on Intel's upcoming 'Broadwater' chipset, which will ship primarily as the 965 family, but also as the 946 and 963 product lines, it is believed. The platform also takes in Intel's next-generation Gigabit Ethernet controller, 'Nineveh', and its 65nm dual- and single-core Pentium D and Pentium 4 6xx processors.

Market Share Smackdown: Linux 85.4% vs. Windows 1%
No, Linux 85.4% vs. Windows 1% is not a typo, neither the result of erroneous information. The fact is that there is a context where the open source operating system holds the lion's king of the market while Microsoft's proprietary platform is not the only dominant OS, but is reduced to a bottom feeder in terms of its install base.

19.6.2009Firefox now a serious threat to IE in Europe: report
Mozilla's Firefox (FF) web
browser has made dramatic
gains on Microsoft's Internet
Explorer (IE) throughout
Europe in the past year with a
marked upturn in FF use
compared to IE over the past
four months, according to
French web monitoring service
XiTiMonitor.
A study
of nearly 96,000 websites
carried out during the week of
July 2 to July 8 found that FF
had 27.8% market share across
Eastern and Western Europe, IE
had 66.5%, with other browsers
including Safari and Opera
making up the remaining 5.7%.
A particularly
worrying sign for Microsoft is
that in some key European
markets FF is threatening to
overtake IE as the market
leading browser. In Slovenia
(47.9%) and Finland (45.4%) FF
usage has reached parity with
IE, while in Germany, Poland,
Hungary, Czech Republic,
Slovakia, Croatia and Ireland,
FF has either reached or is
nearly at 40% market share...

place in the beta are receiving the message: We are building a faster, simpler version of Facebook that we call Facebook Lite. It's not finished
yet and we have plenty of kinks to work out, but we would love to get your feedback on what we have built so far. The site for the feature is

14.08.2009Cisco Killing off Linksys Brand
Those of you with any brand
loyalty to Linksys will shed a
tear at Cisco's announcement
to kill off the Linksys name
entirely. The only reason
Cisco kept the name after they
bought out the smaller company
was for brand recognition in
the US (Linksys was much
better known among consumers).
Cisco has already been
making new divisions focusing
on the consumer market, and
eventually making all of
Linksys's stuff under the
Cisco brand won't be a huge
deal. We'll live. But whether
Cisco can shed their image of
being this monolithic
networking company that
provides products only to
businesses and TelCos is
another story.

Data from ComScore is showing that Microsoft's Bing search engine is taking market share away from Yahoo in the US market, reports IT Pro. The
latest data shows that Microsoft captured 8.4% of US internet searches in June. That's up from 8% last month. Yahoo's market share fell to
19.6% in June, down from 20.1% in May. Google's market share remains at 65%. "Given all the publicity and advertising around Bing, we were
expecting a month-on-month increase.", said Citi analyst Mark Mahaney. But he also cautions that it's too early to see whether there's a
trend or not.
