August 23 and 24, from version 7.0.6000.374 to 7.0.6000.381. On the evening of August 24, Windows Vista users started complaining of failed
activations/validations. Microsoft would later say that about 12,000 systems failed to activate/validate. What Microsoft didn't say is which ones.
Are these two events related, or is it merely coincidental that around the same time Microsoft disseminated a new version of Windows

Top tier anti-virus vendors including McAfee, Trend Micro, and Sophos all failed to secure Windows Vista SP1 in recent independent tests.
Virus Bulletin, the independent security certification body, said 17 of 37 anti-virus products tested failed to reach the VB100 certification
standard. McAfee VirusScan, Trend Micro Internet Security and Sophos Anti-Virus overlooked threats known to be in circulation. Other vendors whose
products failed to make the grade included Alwil, BitDefender, Norman, PC Tools, and VirusBuster.
Some of the ignored threats -
largely polymorphic file infectors - have been in circulation for months. "It is disappointing to see so many products tripping up over threats that
are not even new - computer users should be getting a better service from their anti-virus vendors than this," Virus Bulletin technical consultant
John Hawes said.

A federal judge has ruled that Oracle destroyed or failed to preserve Chief Executive Larry Ellison's e-mail files sought as evidence in a
class-action lawsuit filed in 2001 against the software maker. The suit seeks damages on behalf of Oracle shareholders who held the stock when it fell
after the company reported disappointing results in 2001.
The lawsuit claims Ellison and other executives made false statements about the
company's financial condition as well as the functionality of its Oracle 11i suite of business management software. U.S. District Judge Susan
Illston also ruled that Oracle improperly failed to produce tapes and transcripts from interviews that a journalist conducted with Ellison in 2001 and

Microsoft's Windows Live
OneCare security suite has
failed a test to detect or
stop 37 malicious programs on
Windows Vista. Independent
security certification body
Virus Bulletin tested 15
security suites on Windows
Vista against a set of malware
from the WildList database.
"The tests conducted in our
secure labs were against the
most significant viruses and
worms affecting real-world
users," said John Hawes,
technical consultant at Virus
Bulletin.
"In
these days of hourly updates,
it is always a surprise and a
disappointment to see major
products missing them.
Computer users deserve to see
a better performance than this
from security vendors."
OneCare detected about 99.91
per cent of the threats,
picking up on all macro
viruses. But it failed to stop
some viruses, file infectors
and polymorphic malware which
constantly changes in an
effort to avoid detection by
security software.
Microsoft's offering was one
of four suites which failed to
detect all malware. The others
were G-Data AntiVirusKit 2007
v.17.0.6353, McAfee VirusScan
Enterprise 8.1i and Norman
Virus Control 5.90.

In a podcast that's supposed
to wrap up TGS 2006, the folks
of GamesRadar have proudly
declared that the PSP has
failed. They state that
nothing really notable was
shown for the PSP during
TGS2006 except Metal Gear
Solid: Portable Ops, compared
to four to five DS games that
were featured at TGS 2006.
According to them, the word
from Developers at TGS 2006 is
that the PSP is either failing
or has already failed.
Despite high profile
titles like Portable Ops and
Square-Enix's Final Fantasy:
Crisis Core, the PSP has
pretty much almost taken the
road of the Gamecube already.
It seems that Developers with
games that have a sure
following are the only ones
that have the courage to
release titles for the PSP.
The tone of the
PodCast's take on the
handheld scene is that the DS
just has so much more official
content compared to the
PSP.
And here Sony
wonders why the Homebrew scene
is growing. Perhaps if they
had more "big" games for the
handheld during release, or
maybe if they welcomed
hobbyists and developers the
same way Microsoft is
welcoming the same people with
the XNA, game developers will
have a brighter outlook for
the PSP. As debatable as it
is, the PodCast does raise
some very convincing points.
