Microsoft Backs Off Controversial Exchange 2007 Licensing Policy
Microsoft has backed off a
controversial licensing
provision introduced with
Exchange 2007 that forced
customers to spend more money
to get basic mailbox
management features.
Last month, Microsoft
issued a licensing advisory to
channel partners and customers
informing them that access to
the Managed Default Folders
feature in Exchange 2007 --
the functional equivalent of
the Mailbox Manager introduced
with Exchange 2003 -- would be
reinstated as part of the
Exchange 2007 Standard client
access license (CAL), or Core
CAL.
When the e-mail
system was launched in
December, Microsoft said the
renamed mailbox manager
feature would be available
only under the newly
introduced, and more
expensive, Exchange 2007
Enterprise CAL. Previously,
Microsoft offered only one CAL
for Exchange, and mailbox
management was included. ..

FSX-SP2(DX10) delay factors
Phil Taylor: This has come up multiple times, including in the comments of the SP2 post, so I want to cover why there is a time delay from when
Acceleration will be available and until the download for SP2 will be available.
Yes, there is a reason for the delay, even if
bits for SP2 are done.
Just because Acceleration English RTM'ed and the bits are frozen does not mean they are ready to release.
Since Acceleration and SP2 are separate products; that means completely separate efforts are required for setup, test, and international release
efforts.

Will replication in Exchange Server 2007 SP1 woo IT?
With the first service pack for Exchange Server 2007 due out at any time, the question is whether or not some of its new replication features will get
IT managers to jumpstart their migrations from older Exchange platforms on to the new messaging server.
Microsoft has promised
Exchange Server 2007 SP1 for the fourth quarter of this year. The big new feature will be standby continuous replication, or SCR, which lets IT
managers replicate an Exchange Server to another location, which could then be activated if there were a disaster at the company's main location.
Exchange Server 2007 came with local continuous replication and cluster continuous replication. The LCR copies the Exchange Server
onto another location on the same server, while CCR gives IT manager's instant fail-over to another server at the same location. The addition of SCR
means IT managers will have a third copy of the Exchange Server at a remote location, although it has to be activated manually.
