OS X 10.4.3 dual-booted on a Thinkpad video + screenshot

By now a lot of us have seen videos of Apple OS X running on PCs, but we got ahold of this latest video of 10.4.3 running on a Thinkpad -- and it's running damned fast if you ask us. The video drivers still aren't up to snuff and neither is the wireless (no big surprise on either), but we have a feeling that when the official x86 10.4.4 build hits the streets next month there's gonna be a huge surge of development and adaption going on.

Microsoft Launching a Windows Vista TFT Monitor

Widescreen 22in display to make best use of the operating system's graphics.

Microsoft is launching a computer monitor that it claims will best show the new functions and features in its Vista operating system.

The software giant is working with Samsung to build a high-resolution, 22in widescreen Vista Monitor, which is due for release around the same time as the operating system.

Vista has been designed to look best when using a widescreen display, and Microsoft wants to ensure that as far as possible users take advantage of this. By producing a Microsoft-badged monitor, it can promote widescreen Vista use to those who upgrade from Windows XP or buy a new PC running the operating system.

Samsung confirmed it is working with Microsoft to build the monitors. Ami Randhawa, monitor product manager at Samsung, said: ?The demand is being driven by Vista. It will be branded Microsoft, but built by Samsung.?

Microsoft was contacted, but said: ?Microsoft does not comment on rumour and speculation.?

OLPC developing dual-boot Windows, Linux OS for laptops

The One Laptop Per Child Project (OLPC) and Microsoft are working together to develop a dual-boot system to put both Linux and Windows on laptops aimed at kids in developing countries, the head of OLPC said in an interview Tuesday.

"We are working with them very closely to make a dual-boot system so that, like on an Apple, you can boot either one up. The version that's up and running of Windows on the XO is very fast, it's very, very successful. We're working very hard to do both," said Nicholas Negroponte, chairman of OLPC.

It's a brand new development for the XO laptops, as the low-cost notebooks are known, and came about because of Microsoft's friendlier attitude towards open source software.
