10.06.2008Windows Home Server & OneNote
As some of you might know Windows Home Server (WHS) is a new product released from Microsoft that allows you to have a server at home. WHS does a
variety of things like backup all of your computers and makes sure you have your files on all of your machines and integrates with many other apps.
It is really cool and of course some people out there are interested in storing their notebooks up on WHS and they have been asking to see if this is
possible.
This is possible and you can store your files on your machine so it would be on a remote share in your house.
Something like
\whsNotebookShare and then you can open that in OneNote on all of
your computers in your house and you will have a nice little shared notebook.
As of mid-December we have been getting a few
reports that there is a problem where WHS will corrupt OneNote files...

11.10.2007Windows Home Server patch is out
Hewlett Packard now has its hands on the Windows Home Server (WHS) update for which it decided to delay its MediaSmart Home Server.
HardwareGeeks.com got
Microsoft to confirm that HP now has
the WHS patch. The Windows enthusiast site also is reporting that Microsoft is planning an announcement on Tuesday, September 25, about the
availability of the WHS update.
At the end of August, Microsoft officials acknowledged they were working on a post-RTM
(release-to-manufacturing) WHS update would make the platform more appealing to developers. Microsoft said at that time that it planned to make the
update available in a couple of weeks.
HP admitted in late August that it planned to delay its initial WHS shipments in order to
incorporate the Microsoft WHS update leading some to question exactly what was in the update and why it seemed to impact HP more than other WHS
vendors. HPs new official due date for its MediaSmart Server: Holiday season 2007. (Originally, HP was expected to be first out of the WHS gate,
shipping MediaSmart Server on September 15.)

17.07.2009Windows Home Server Power Pack 3 update
Nicole Berett: Weve
talked extensively about the improvements that Power Pack 3 for Windows Home Server will deliver for users. We were proud to show
off the beta code of Power Pack 3 at the recent
CEDIA 2009 custom installer technology show, where we got lots of positive reception to the feature set. Its
clear that the anticipation of using Windows Home Server with the upcoming Windows 7 client PC operating system is reaching feverish pitch! OK,
maybe that was a slight exaggerationBut the bottom line is that weve gotten tremendous feedback (and test coverage) from you, our enthusiasts,
around Power Pack 3 and we couldnt be more excited.
This being said, our top priority is to ensure the absolute highest level
of product quality, and to this end, we will continue with additional testing of the software. As with past software releases, our team will not ship
the official final release of Power Pack 3 until the community has validated our work. We expect to deliver before the end of the year.

Microsoft has detailed its plans to release a public beta of its Windows Home Server Power Pack.
The update will include a fix for the data
corruption issues that have plagued the OS since its release.
In a message to potential testers the company said:
"Due to the
nature of the shared folder data corruption bug (KB #946676) a broad beta test program with sufficient time for feedback is required. The time line
for a final release will depend on this feedback and testing, in order to deliver a fix of the highest quality. To meet our goals for the beta test we
need the number of beta testers who are actively using and testing the Power Pack 1 beta to ramp up very quickly"
The company is asking
for anyone currently using Home Server to sign up to the beta to ensure the data corruption issue is fixed.
