20.1.2009Microsoft readies Zune Firmware Update 2.3
The Microsoft Zune team plans to soon release firmware version 2.3 for the portable multimedia device. The download link isn’t up yet, but
I’ll be updating this newspost when it does go up. The update is not a major one, meaning no new features will be added. It does, however,
address a battery issue that a minor amount of Zune 30 and Zune 80 users have been experiencing. More specifically, the problem occurs when users
suspend their Zune hard drives by holding down the play/pause button – in some cases the battery continues to drain. The firmware update will
also reportedly improve device recognition as well as stability and reliability during syncing (both wirelessly and while connected to a PC).

15.11.2007Microsoft Disappoints Zune Users Waiting For Firmware Update
Last month, Cesar Menendez
announced on his Zune Insider
blog that the Zune 1.3
firmware update would be
released on March 20, today.
On the most recent blog entry,
also marked March 20, there is
no firmware update release.
Instead of a download link,
Mr. Menendez contacted Zune's
release manager who replied:
" I can't comment on the
exact date just yet, but it
will be soon, as it's in the
final testing and processes to
get released ." Not only
should you try to stick to the
date you tell your customers
about, but if you can't make
the date, you should tell them
beforehand, not on the day of.
To make matters worse, the
firmware update isn't all
about new features. It is
expected to fix problems users
are having with purchased Zune
Marketplace songs "skipping"
at the start. There is no
excuse for the Zune not
correctly playing music from
the Zune Marketplace.
Especially if the product has
been available for a few
months now.

19.12.2006Microsoft readies Zune Software Update 2.3
Not to be confused with the firmware updated
released last month, this update will bring the Zune software to the same version number: 2.3. The update, which will not be a
major one (judging by the fact that the previous version is 2.1), will be released sometime today; it all depends on how quickly the software
giant can get the file ready on all of its servers. So, essentially, you can't expect new features but there will be the usual bug fixes as well
as performance improvements in terms of set-up, sync and general reliability. I’d like to reiterate again for those who will be happily clicking

09.09.2008Wireless Purchases and "Buy From FM" Coming to the Zune
Microsoft has announced that, beginning with a software update next week (beginning September 16th), all Microsoft Zune portable media players will be
given a software update that make it easier to discover and purchase music while on the go.
To make all purchases on the go possible,
Microsoft will be giving users access to the Zune Marketplace directly on their Zune devices using an available Wi-Fi connection. To help shoppers
find what they are looking for, they will be able to browse lists of top songs and new releases or use the on screen keyboard to find the music they
are looking for. Once a track is selected, it can be downloaded or streamed directly to the Zune device.
To further the ability of Zune
users to discover new music, the firmware update will also allow listeners to "Buy from FM". This feature utilizes the built in FM tuner and the
Radio Data Systems and RT+ feeds already available inside of FM signals to identify a song being played on the radio. Users can tag these songs and
then download or stream them directly to their Zune device. If no wireless signal is available, at the time, the tracks will be added to a queue and
will be downloaded once the device is connected to a computer or an available Wi-Fi hotspot.
