Microsoft's Not the Only One Doing Mobile Mail
The same day the beta invites started going out for Windows Live Mail Mobile,
Google launched Gmail Mobile. So far, Gmail Mobile is supporting relatively few cell phones and PDAs and only those in the U.S.. But wider coverage is coming soon, Google claims. And you can get
Gmail Mobile on your Blackberry, too. And speaking of Google, it's sounding like Microsoft's nemesis bested Microsoft in the contest for whose search engine would power Google search, going forward. As part of that deal,
Google reportedly will invest $1 billion in AOL, in exchange for a five percent stake.

Stuck on IE6? Gmail's got your back.
Like many companies, the company I work for is mainly IE6. The older machines are running Windows 2000 and some of our clients applications
(applications we have no control over) don't work with IE7.
We recently tested Gmail Apps to use for the majority of our agents and one
of the biggest problems with the web interface was the lack of features that are available in other browsers. With the newest version of Gmail, this
is a problem of the past.
Gmail has been working with IE engineers at Microsoft to fix some of the problems they found with their code and
how it works with IE6. In order to see these changes you will need to install the latest updates from Microsoft (or specifically the update described
in MS08-022).
New confirmed features for
IE6 users include colored labels, invisible mode and Gmail Labs. With Google trying to compete in the enterprise email sector I believe this is a
step in the right direction. What do you think about this change?

YouTube to drop support for IE6
YouTube will soon be dropping support for Internet Explorer 6 as it attempts to move users to a "more modern browser". Google, who owns YouTube, is
pushing for users to upgrade to Chrome, Firefox or IE. It's no surprise that they are pushing for users to switch to Chrome with two
advertisements to download the browser which Google is using to challenge Microsoft's IE 8. TechCrunch cites that YouTube is trying to follow in
Digg's footsteps where it recently expressed interest in dropping support for the legacy browser. "Digg's User Experience Architect Mark
Trammell at the time wrote that the site is strongly considering removing essential features like digging and commenting for IE6 users.

Microsoft: All versions of IE have critical new bug
Microsoft has confirmed that the unpatched bug in Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) that hackers are now exploiting also exists in older versions of the
browser, including the still-widely-used IE6. It adds IE6 and IE8 Beta 2 to the list and recommends disabling the Oledb32.dll to stay safe. A Danish
security researcher added that Microsoft's original countermeasure advice was insufficient and recommended that users take one of the new steps
the company spelled out. In a revised security advisory, Microsoft said research confirmed that the bug is within all its browsers, including those
it currently supports -- IE5.01, IE6 and IE7 -- as well as IE8 Beta 2, a preview version that the company doesn't support through normal channels.

Firefox eclipses IE6 in web share, threatens IE7
Firefox 3 has become the first non-Microsoft web browser to overtake Internet Explorer 6 in market share, according to new data from StatCounter. The open source browser climbed to 24
percent of users in February while IE6 dipped to just over 22.6 percent, making Firefox the second most popular browser by individual version.
Although Internet Explorer 7 still leads with 40.8 percent, the Firefox increase narrows the gap as Microsoft's browser has remained largely flat
since at least July.
