AMD not eliminating ATI brand, reports false
One of the unforeseen ramifications of the AMD-ATI hookup is the new hyper-rumor-transport bus, a new technology whereby unsubstantiated rumors become fact at an alarming rate. 14.08.2007AMD opens door to ATI Linux drivers
AMD's ATI division is reversing its open source strategy by offering better open source drivers. The graphics chips maker has traditionally
demonstrated a poor performance in allowing open source drivers. Dell, for instance, made a conscious decision to use Nvidia graphics cards in its
Linux PCs because of ATI's lacking open source support and the poor performance of the drivers that were available.
ATI will now develop
fully functional 2D and 3D drivers for Linux. Although the drivers are still closed source, the firm will release documentation that allows
third-party developers to build and support their own drivers. The drivers and documentation will be released for ATI's Radeon HT2000 chipset and
Radeon X1000 graphics processors and newer lines. AMD revealed its plans to create the open source drivers on Wednesday. The release of the
documentation was discussed at the Kernel Summit that took place in Cambridge this week.

07.09.2007Windows 7 Driver Compatibility Evidence Seen
A day after someone noticed a "Windows 7 Client" category popping up on Windows Server Update Services, another curious enthusiast on the Neowin
forums has also noticed a sudden prevalence of "Windows 7 Client" drivers on Microsoft's Update Catalog - the online library of drivers which
Windows uses to automatically install.
A
simple search for "Windows 7 Client" reveals more than 1000 drivers already available. These drivers range from the big brands
from Nvidia, ATI, Intel and Broadcom to even miscellaneous display drivers. Whilst it is true all drivers approved after June 1 should have been
tested on Windows 7, most of these drivers date back to early 2007 suggesting most drivers have just been carried over from the latest WHQL release.

03.11.2006Rockstar to Release GTA IV Patch Soon
Flustered Grand Theft Auto IV players can take a deep sigh of relief today as Rockstar Toronto announced that a patch for the buggy title will be out
"in the next few days".
The statement explained that the patch contains the following fixes:
- Fixed crash after
the legal notice screen
- Improvements to the video editor
- Fix to bowling while using certain mice
- Fix for ATI 1900 shadows
- Overall savings to memory
- Graphic improvements to particle systems and mirrors
- Multiplayer character settings are preserved
- Support for DirectInput controllers
Rockstar says that the patch is complete, but as GTA IV is a Games for Windows Live title, it
must first undergo quality assurance testing by Microsoft before it is released to the public. This begs the question: why was this not done with the
initial release?
In the meanwhile, in collaboration with Rockstar, Nvidia has released new Beta drivers for it's cards which fixes
several performance issues with the game (including the missing textures issue, so it seems). The drivers, version 180.84, can be downloaded from the
link below. It should be noted that these drivers do not yet introduce SLI support in the game. ATI is also expected to release new drivers, Catalyst
8.12, on December 10th.

08.10.2008NVIDIA Makes Laptop Graphics Drivers Available Online ... Finally
NVIDIA decided to give notebook users an early Christmas present today. It's a present notebook owners have kept on their wish lists since NVIDIA
first started making graphics processing units (GPUs) for notebooks ... downloadable drivers on the
NVIDIA website.
For years now the only way laptop owners could
find notebook graphics drivers for NVIDIA GPUs was if the notebook manufacturer was kind enough to make the drivers available or to download
unofficial "hacked" drivers from various websites (drivers that were often hacked together based on desktop GPU drivers). Consumers need these
drivers in order to be able to take full advantage of the latest visual computing applications and games as well as to be able to restore GPU
functions after a fresh install of Windows.
