In progress: Vista updates!
In progress right now is a beta testers chat with MS experts on the future of IE7 and Vista. Here are some parts of the chat that may be interesting to you... more to come shortly:
SamW [MS] (Expert):
Q: [17] When will you release the November CTP? Only 2 days left of November!
A: There will be no CTP for Vista in November because we are targeting for most features to be code-complete by end of December and resources efforts are going towards that effort. We should have a CTP in December before the Christmas holiday. These interim changes have no impact on our general availability target for Windows Vista. We are on track to deliver a high-quality Windows Vista in the 2nd half of 2006.
Paul Donnelly [MS] (Expert):
Q: [54] Can someone clear up what seems to be confusion on the groups over the release of Build 5259? Did it go to selected testers or TAP because date of release and extent seems confused. I notice Mario mentions it today.
A: A specific, small group of partners received access to 5259. It is an IDW build and has not gone through the CTP testing process.

28.6.2007Windows 7 beta receiving test updates on Feb. 24th
As various Windows blogs are reporting, Microsoft is issuing some test updates for the official Windows 7 Beta (that's build 7000) this month, on
the 24th. The purpose of these updates is to ensure that Windows 7 is fully capable of being issued online updates, and to help the Windows 7 check
for any problems or bugs. The updates themselves will not automatically be install, but yet the user will be notified of these and will be offered if
they wish to download them. The updates serve no purpose except for testing, and this will be clearly labeled that they are for testing purposes only.

20.02.2009Microsoft release Windows 7 application compatibility update
Following on from the Internet Explorer 8 update that Microsoft released for Windows 7 Beta a day ago, another update has been released targeting
application compatibility. Judging by these two updates released, Microsoft is progressing nicely, and the most recent update targets mainly games
that did not run before hand, or had to be opened via compatibility-mode. Interestingly, Microsoft didn't state which applications were targeted
in this update, but it is of no doubt that users will find out soon enough. If you're currently having problems with gaming, or have had problems
with it, in the Windows 7 Beta, install these updates and post in the comments to show which games now work, or still don't.

27.02.2009Microsoft releases super bundle of security patches
Microsoft has released what
security experts are calling
one of the most significant
security fixes this year. On
Tuesday morning, the software
maker pushed out nine sets of
patches, called updates in
Microsoft parlance, fixing a
total of 14 bugs in its
software. Six of these updates
are rated critical by
Microsoft, meaning that
attackers could exploit the
flaws with no user action
required. The other three
updates are rated important.
It is the largest set of
updates released by Microsoft
since February.
" People should
definitely cancel their dinner
plans and make sure they take
this one seriously because
both the breadth and impact of
these are important, "
said Don Leatham, director of
solutions and strategy with
PatchLink. " This is an
intense month. "

29.10.2008An Update For Windows Update
An infrastructure update has been planned for Windows Update client. The gradual roll-out of this update will begin in late July. This update will
occur automatically to any system configured to either receive updates “automatically” or “notify” customers that new updates
are available for download.
For enterprise customers who use Windows Server Update Services or Systems Management Server, all updating,
including the WU client, is controlled by the network administrators, who have authority over the download and install experience. Windows Vista
customers who select “never check for updates” in their WU settings will not receive this update until they manually install updates from
Windows Update.
In this particular update, there will not make any changes to the way WU looks or feels, instead the following have been
improved:
- The length of time it takes Windows Update to scan for updates
- The speed in which signature updates will be delivered
Detailed information on this is posted on the
Microsoft Update blog.

application compatibility and KB943899 for reliability and performance), and one update of particular notice: KB935509. Similar to previous updates
that enhanced Windows Vistas performance and reliability, these updates will be distributed automatically through Windows Update.
Tomorrows KB935509 release is a little different than past updates. It is a prerequisite for installing SP1 and is applicable only for Windows
