Windows Internet Explorer 7 DOWNLOAD
Few days ago at RSA, Bill Gates talked about Internet Explorer 7. As the guy responsible for IE, I wanted to say a couple of things about it.
First, some basics: we’re committing to deliver a new version of Internet Explorer for Windows XP customers. Betas of IE7 will be available this summer. This new release will build on the work we did in Windows XP SP2 and (among other things) go further to defend users from phishing as well as deceptive or malicious software.

The wait is over folks, Microsoft has published the download page for the Windows 7 RC. As we noted earlier, the download was scheduled to launch
tomorrow and was to be available worldwide. Coming straight from the download page, here are Microsoft's notes for the release candidate: You
don't need to rush to get the RC. The RC will be available at least through July 2009 and we're not limiting the number of product keys, so
you have plenty of time. Watch the calendar. The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. Starting on March 1, 2010, your PC will begin shutting down every
two hours. Windows will notify you two weeks before the bi-hourly shutdowns start.

05.05.2009Upgrade to Windows Live Messenger 8.5 is coming
Back in November we shipped the final version of Windows Live Messenger 8.5 along with several other Windows Live applications and services. A lot of
you have already upgraded, and for that we thank you and hope you?re enjoying it as much as we enjoyed building it. Starting soon, we?re going to make
it easier for those of you who haven?t upgraded yet to get onto our latest and greatest.
This will happen in two phases. First, everyone
running Windows XP or Windows Vista will get a prompt encouraging you to upgrade. When you accept the upgrade, the new unified installer will launch
and start upgrading Messenger. While it?s installing, you?ll have the option to download and install other Windows Live applications. You don?t have
to take any of them, but we think you?ll like them and hope you?ll give them a try.

22.02.2008Interview with Don Lindsay, Microsoft Live Labs
If you think of all the innovative, cool and realistic technologies Microsoft has shown to the public in the past year or two, Photosynth would easily
top that list. That’s pretty amazing for a research group that’s only been existent in Microsoft for just two years. Anyone who follows

find out a little about the history and what is going on behind the scenes. Don also shares a little about his interesting past and contributions to

14.01.2008Windows 7 pre order discount orders are now avaliable
As we reported earlier today, Microsoft would offer both Windows 7 Home Premium and Professional at a pre-order discount price of $49.99 and
$99.99 respectively starting June 26th and going through July 11 while supplies last. But it looks like you don't have to wait any longer,
the Microsoft Store is now taking Windows 7 pre-orders at the discounted prices. Users can either pre-order Windows 7 as a download, a download plus a
disc, or just a disc. People are reporting that their Windows Live ID's aren't being accepted if they try to log in, but if they create a new
account with their e-mail address the order does go through.

When Google finally showed off their new OS yesterday there was a lot of skepticism about working in the cloud, offline applications and many other

bumps and a rough experience. But if you're willing to take the plunge you can follow the directions here.

24.01.2009Time to dump Windows?
InfoWorld's "Save XP" petition asking Microsoft to keep Windows XP available indefinitely, not end most sales on June 30 as currently planned,
has prompted many readers to suggest that maybe the best answer for those who don't like Vista is to switch to another operating system
completely.
"Don't be afraid. Just switch to Linux and become a member of a really free society," wrote Carlos Raul Gutierrez.
"Windows Vista was the reason I bought a Mac mini. I didn't want my only choices to be an operating system that would soon be obsolete (XP) or
one that was buggy and would break much existing hardware (Vista), and I'm not enough of a geek to use Linux (do things from the command line?
Puhleeze...)," wrote "Jack."

18.02.2008Why Windows XP must be saved
The clock is ticking for Windows XP, the tried-and-true Microsoft operating system that millions of businesses and individuals depend on. Soon, the
only Windows option will be Vista, an operating system that businesses as well as individuals have disliked and often avoided. The lackluster changes
to Vista, coupled with the high costs of switching tens of millions of computers to it, have convinced InfoWorld that XP should not be retired as
planned on June 30.
Millions of us have grown comfortable with XP and don't see a need to change to Vista. It's like having a
comfortable apartment that you've enjoyed coming home to for years, only to get an eviction notice. The thought of moving to a new place -- even
with the stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, and maple cabinets (or is cherry in this year?) -- just doesn't sit right. Maybe
it'll be more modern, but it will also cost more and likely not be as good a fit. And you don't have any other reason to move. That's
exactly the conclusion people have come to with Vista. For most of us, there's really no reason to move to it -- yet we don't have a choice.
When that strong desire to stick with XP became obvious in spring 2007, major computer makers such as Dell and Hewlett-Packard quietly reintroduced
new XP-based systems (but just to business customers, so as not to offend Microsoft).

10.02.2009Windows 7 beta download imminent?
Microsoft have updated their Windows 7 site with a download link for the Windows 7 beta. It would appear from the posting that Microsoft is currently
readying site updates and download servers for the imminent release of the Windows 7 beta. Yesterday, German site Winfuture claimed that the beta
would be released today and this could confirm the sites claims. The download link is currently inaccessible. It's entirely possible that once
the page is live it will simply be a sign up page to register your interest. Microsoft will not comment on the exact date and a Microsoft official
confirmed the beta is still targetted for early 2009.

11.11.2007Windows PowerShell: String Theory

"If you're parsing a string in Windows PowerShell, you're doing something wrong." Unfortunately, you sometimes have no choice but to work with strings. The good news is that
while Windows PowerShell is an
object oriented tool, it is also able to parse complicated strings.
In the September 2008 installment of his Windows PowerShell

Don Jones demonstrates how you can use Select-String to parse strings.

One of my favorite Windows Live applications is Live Mesh. There hasn't been much exposure for this application because it's still in beta.
For those of you who don't know what Live Mesh is, I'll give a short introduction before I get into the overview. Live Mesh is a program that
allows you to sync an unlimited amount of data to an unlimited amount of computers. Live Mesh will automatically sync any new content inside your
folders to everyone in your cloud. The beauty of Live Mesh is that you can also access your files online if you don't have access to one of your
cloud computers using your Live Desktop.
