28.8.2009New "Network Direct" RDMA Interface Available with Windows Server 2008
Phil Pennington: Windows HPC Server 2008 introduces a new low-latency RDMA network API known as "Network Direct". This RDMA interface in
addition to and distinct from the existing "Winsock Direct" interface. The Network Direct interface introduces several advantages over
Winsock Direct including no dependency on the Winsock stack and much lower latency metrics. MS MPI is being developed to take advantage of this
new interface.
This means that Infiniband vendors, for instance, will need to provide HCA Network Direct providers in
addition to (or perhaps instead of) the Winsock Direct providers published previously. Consequently, development is underway by both Microsoft
and partners to enable full support for the entire network stack.
For programmers, the Network Direct API provides a model
similar to the User Mode Driver Framework (UMDF). MS MPI will be the first user-mode application to leverage Network Direct.

03.11.2009CircuitCity.com is back, copy of CompUSA & Tiger Direct site
CircuitCity lives again, or at least the name does. As of May 23 the site has gone live again offering the types of products that you would expect

coincidentally the same company who also bought up CompUSA's domain assets also own and run Tigerdirect.com. Knowing this fact it becomes quite
apparent that CircuitCity.com is a direct copy of CompUSA and TigerDirect.

24.05.2009MSN Direct Enables Web Sites to Deliver Location Information to GPS Navigation Devices
Today Microsoft Corp. released an open application programming interface (API) for the MSN Direct Send to GPS feature for navigation devices. This
allows any Web site to offer visitors the ability to send addresses, business listings, or other locations directly from the site to their GPS unit,
eliminating the cumbersome step of re-entering or searching for the same information on their navigation device.
The API is an
extension of the MSN Direct feature initially launched at International CES earlier this year. With this updated version, MSN Direct allows any Web
site to send location information to navigation devices either wirelessly or via a USB connection. The wireless delivery is compatible with MSN
Direct-enabled devices that have the Send to GPS feature, including several units from Garmin Ltd. such as the nüvi 780 and nüvi 880, along with
nüvi 5000, nüvi 750, nüvi 760, or nüvi 2x5 series devices with the optional MSN Direct receiver. USB delivery is also compatible with the vast
majority of remaining Garmin navigators.

12.01.2008Direct X 10 Details Emerge
Direct X is a platform
introduced back in 1995 to
persuade DOS programmers to
write games that run on
Windows. Over the 11 years
that have followed, Direct X
has evolved along with the
massive improvements in
hardware.
Direct X 10 is scheduled for
release alongside Windows
Vista. A number of changes to
DirectInput have been made,
with the release of Direct X
10, Xbox controllers and
peripherals will be supported
in the code, allowing game
developers to support the
devices easily within the
games.
The
biggest improvements are a
unified shader model, which
will hopefully free developers
from having to write separate
code paths for ATI and NVIDIA
hardware, and new features
such as the Geometry Shader
that can add complexity to a
scene procedurally.
Microsoft has been a
big fan of
procedurally-generated
graphics, including features
on the Xbox 360 to
specifically handle these
items. However, DirectX 10
goes far beyond these ideas
and adds features that, can't
easily be done on the
next-generation of
consoles.
