application with the simplicity that you see in other applications from the team like QuickPwn. The update will be released on New Years Eve and will
require a jailbroken iPhone and 2.11.07 baseband or earlier. Jailbreaking is a method of unofficially hacking the device and allowing it to run 3rd
party applications not available on Apple's official AppStore. The latest iPhone 2.2 software updates the baseband beyond 2.11.07 and it is
recommended that if you want a 3G unlock that you do not update to 2.2 using iTunes alone.

17.10.2007Apple iPhone 3G unlocked already
A group from Brazil has managed to unlock Apple's iPhone 3G handset just days after its release. The unlocked iPhone is displayed and demonstrated
in an online video on a Portuguese-language news blog. An unlocked iPhone can be used with any Sim card and service provider.
IPhone user
Bruno MacMasi said in an interview with Gizmodo that the unlocking process involved modifying the Sim hardware so that the International Mobile
Subscriber Identity can be overwritten and removed from the original network. A similar process was used to unlock the original iPhone last year.
Separately, a group of researchers known as the iPhone Devteam has released the first 'jailbreak' software releases for the iPhone 3G and the
iPhone 2.0 software update. The 'jailbreak' term refers to the process of removing the software controls which prohibit users from installing
software outside of the iPhone App Store.

Purplera1n, unrelated to the Dev Team, has come out with a solution to jailbreak the iPhone 3GS for both Windows and Intel Mac computers. The
jailbreak allows users to download Cydia on their iPhone to install unofficial applications on their device. The jailbreaking solution provided by
purplera1n still does not allow Winterboard to be used as of yet. The method installs an application called Freeze onto the device; this installs and
unpacks Cydia. Users who install Cydia onto their device can then proceed to install UltraSn0w which was recently released to unlock the iPhone 3G,
now unlocks the iPhone 3GS.

28.01.2009Apple: a Quarter Million iPhones are Unlocked
During Apples fourth-quarter fiscal 2007 earnings conference call, Apple COO Tim Cook revealed that some 250,000 (18%) of all iPhones sold since the
devices were released in June have been unlocked. A total of 1.4 million iPhones have been sold, and the remaining 82% are using AT&T, the sole U.S.
carrier for the iPhone. According to various online sources, Cook told analysts that these one-quarter million phones were sold to buyers who intended
to unlock them at the outset.
Cook also warned that Apple wont let those unlocked phones remain workable for long. Apple has been playing
a game of tug of war with hackers who consistently work around Apple’s firmware updates that disable unlocked U.S. phones. On the other hand,
Apple plans to comply with French consumer laws, despite agreements with Orange, its exclusive carrier in France, by introducing an unlocked
iPhone.

28.10.2007Apple Announces that Orange is Exclusive iPhone Carrier in France
Besides Leopard, Apple announced today that Orange will be the exclusive French carrier for the Apple iPhone. The iPhone will make its debut in France
on Thursday November 29th.
"We are excited to partner with Orange and bring iPhone to France in time for the holidays," said
Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "iPhone is an amazing product and we hope mobile users in France will love it as much as we do."
The 8GB iPhone will be sold in France through Orange's online and direct retail stores for 399 euros including V.A.T.
It's
unclear what became of the
negotiations surrounding the French law that requires mobile phones to be sold unlocked 6 months after launch.
