The same day the beta invites started going out for Windows Live Mail Mobile, Google launched Gmail Mobile. So far, Gmail Mobile is supporting relatively few cell phones and PDAs and only those in the U.S.. But wider coverage is coming soon, Google claims. And you can get Gmail Mobile on your Blackberry, too. And speaking of Google, it's sounding like Microsoft's nemesis bested Microsoft in the contest for whose search engine would power Google search, going forward. As part of that deal, Google reportedly will invest $1 billion in AOL, in exchange for a five percent stake.

Office Communicator Mobile to Be Available in April

Microsoft plans to make the mobile version of its Office Communicator instant-messaging client for businesses available in 60 days.

That's according to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, who made the announcement at the 3GSM conference in Barcelona on Tuesday. Microsoft unveiled plans to develop Office Communicator Mobile last April. Beta 1 of the technology went to testers in October 2005. The IM client will work on Windows Mobile phones and PDAs.

Microsoft updates Windows Marketplace for Mobile

Microsoft announced today that it has made some important changes to its Windows Marketplace for Mobile. Marketplace for Mobile is Microsoft's Windows Mobile equivalent of the popular Apple iPhone App Store. Marketplace was introduced alongside the new Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system on October 6, 2009. Currently the Marketplace does not support Windows Mobile 6.0 and 6.1 but Microsoft has confirmed it will extend the service to these devices "later this month". Microsoft has introduced a wireless sync between the PC and Windows Mobile. Windows Mobile 6.5 owners can now browse, buy and download applications online at the Windows Marketplace for Mobile site.

Google has launched its Google Mobile App for Windows Phones. WMPoweruser has come up with some screenshots which it believes to be of the upcoming Windows Mobile 7. Below are the alleged images of Windows Mobile 7 that appear in their site. Windows Mobile 6.5 Beta was recently distributed to Microsoft employees for testing and is scheduled for an April 2009 RTM release. More changes in the Windows Mobile 6.5 were demoed in the Mix09 event. Microsoft previews Windows Mobile 6.5

Microsoft today at the Mobile World Congress officially previewed what Neowin has been showing you for weeks now, its new Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system for Windows phones. Windows Mobile 6.5 brings a handful of enhancements including an application store called Windows Marketplace for mobile and a backup and restore service called My Phone. T-Mobile Dumps Google, Favours Yahoo!

T-Mobile announced Tuesday that it will soon begin using Yahoo as its preferred mobile search provider in Europe, ending the operator's existing relationship with Google for mobile search.

The move was seen by many as a minor coup for Yahoo, which is competing with Google and Microsoft to win the loyalty of a growing number of mobile Internet users. Others noted that mobile search is in its infancy and said the field is still wide-open.

When T-Mobile signed its original deal with Google, it made headlines as one of the earliest partnerships between a mobile operator and a search provider.
