Chrome masks as Safari to fool Windows Live Mail

According to Google's Chrome Releases blog, Chrome-users no longer need to go out of their way to make Windows Live Mail/Hotmail work. In addition to providing important security updates, Google's most recent version of Chrome--1.0.154.46--makes it easy for followers to use Windows Live Mail. For some reason, Windows Live Mail does not work properly on Chrome, unless it thinks it is some other browser, such as Apple's Safari. Previously, Chrome-users who had wanted to be able to use Windows Live Mail would have to switch the user-agent manually, but now the browser will identify itself properly as "Chrome" for most normal sites but as "Safari" for URLs ending with mail.live.com.

The latest developer build of Chrome now includes an official option to install themes into Google Chrome. The option is offered under "Personal Stuff" and has the option to "Get Themes". Pressing the button redirects you to a webpage, that shows a whole array of new themes for Chrome. Applying the theme is as simple as pressing the "Apply Theme" button below the chosen theme, and a ".crx" file is downloaded. A restart of Chrome is not required to apply the theme.

Google patches Chrome browser to work with Hotmail

LiveSide: Weve been seeing lots of complaints on Twitter and elsewhere about Hotmail not working in Googles new browser, Chrome.  So today, rather than waiting for Hotmail to address the problem, Google patched Chrome to work with Hotmail, by adding support for User Agent spoofing and appearing to Hotmail as if it were a Safari browser instead.  A quick check using the latest Chrome install seems to work fine with Hotmail (truthfully been to busy playing with Windows 7 to spend much time with Chrome, but there have been lots of mentions of problems)...

Next to the jigsaw piece is a bubble that says "New!

Firefox 3.5 shows the lowest memory usage in all categories, including average memory usage, maximum memory usage, and final memory usage. Chrome uses over 1 GB of memory due to its process architecture. Safari 4 and Opera show memory usage degradation over time, while Chrome and Firefox 3.5 are more reliable in freeing memory to the OS.
