31.10.20082007 to 2027: The shapes of things to come in IT
Gerald M. Weinberg: The one thing I've learned from a half-century in the computer industry is that we can predict anything but the future. In other
words, I predict that the future will surprise us, so to prepare for the future, we'd better stay adaptable.
Though the question
"What's coming?" seems to imply change, I feel somewhat safer predicting certain things that won't change in the next 50 years because they
haven't changed in the past 50. First and foremost, human beings won't change. They'll continue to blunder around emotionally, failing to do what
they know they ought to do when building and supporting computer systems. For that reason, the need for effective managers will not change, but it
will grow more critical.

11.06.2007How Merrill Lynch Plans To Virtualize Half Its Desktops
"Once the world figures this stuff out, this is going to be a huge change to the corporate landscape," Merrill Lynch chief architect Jeff Birnbaum
predicts.
The stuff Birnbaum's talking about is "stateless" desktop virtualization, which promises cost savings from
delivering the software that PCs need over a network using one-off virtual machines spun up in the data center. That should make it much cheaper to
manage, since IT departments can change, say, a setting on the Windows operating system once, and all employees get the change as soon as they access
their virtual desktops, rather than IT having to push the change to tens of thousands of PCs.

04.05.2008Obama's new 'Change.gov'
It would seem that President-Elect Barack Obama has already started to usher in change. Today marks the launch of a new website which seems to have
the goal of merging the gap between citizen and government.
The website contains a newsroom, blog, and even a section entitled
'agenda', under which lists several sections to browse through the various issues of importance. Selecting one will show what the government
of Obama/Biden intend to do and how they intend to do it. There is also a section of the website called the 'American Moment' where visitors
may post their concerns, opinions, and hopes for the future.
Change.gov offers a unique way of having citizens become involved in the
political system of their country, it is still fairly new and thus we'll have to wait to measure its success.

YouTube rolled out an exciting change to all of its users today, by expanding the width of their videos to widescreen (16:9), from the previous
standard format (4:3), making the player 960 pixels wide. A post, in the YouTube Blog, confirmed that all previous 4:3 aspect ratio videos will all
still be watchable, and play just fine. This highly anticipated update to go widescreen comes as a surprise to many, as some dislike the change to the
player going widescreen, where most think the change was needed to the aging player. This update could be the start of more changes to come, after
YouTube announced it will be selling keyword searches to users and businesses.

that would change the current ordering of the browsers, currently in alphabetical order of manufacture, to order of market share, with the exception
of IE. The reordering of the browsers would place Firefox in the first slot, followed by Chrome, Opera and Safari.
