The Problem with Creative and Windows Vista
Don't get me wrong, they make great hardware, but Creative is not known for their efficiency in writing drivers for their hardware. Their Beta 1 drivers are relatively buggy compared to other Beta 1 drivers on the market for Graphics Cards, Network Cards etc, but with a big enough target market and enough technical staff I see no reason why they can't keep up.

Microsoft Works on Comcast E-Mail Problem
Microsoft said Friday that some people who use its Hotmail and MSN e-mail services are not receiving e-mail sent from Comcast accounts and other Internet service providers.
Brooke Richardson, a group product manager with Microsoft's MSN online division, said the problem appears to be due to an increase in e-mail volumes, which it is attributed in part to the Sober Internet worm.

17.6.2008Back from the PDC¦next up, WinHEC
Steven Sinofsky: This has been an amazingly special week for the Windows 7 team. Were all incredibly appreciative of the reception of Windows 7 this
week at the PDC. Thank you!
All of us on the team have been closely watching the news reports and blogs of those who have been
œkicking the tires of the Windows 7 pre-beta. The reception has been fantastic and were humbled by the excitement and enthusiasm for the release.
We know we have a ton of work ahead of us to get to beta and then the path to RTM, and the reception has definitely given us an extra special
motivation (though we were already pretty motivated).

03.09.2005Dude, someone hacked my keyboard
Swiss researchers have demonstrated keystrokes can be recorded wirelessly from wired keyboards by analysing the electromagnetic signals produced by
every key press.
Martin Vuagnoux and Sylvain Pasini, researchers from the Lausanne Security and Cryptography Laboratory,
published a report detailing their findings. The pair tested 11 common keyboards
manufactured from 2001-2008 which were all vulnerable to at least one of their 4 attacks.
The researchers used a radio antenna to "fully
or partially recover keystrokes" by spotting the electromagnetic radiation emitted when keys were pressed.
2 videos have been posted by the researchers that demonstrate the technique
involved.
The pair concluded that wired computer keyboards sold in stores "are not safe to transmit sensitive information".

02.02.2007Duke Resolves iPhone, Wi-Fi Outage Problems
One week after discovering a
glitch between Apple iPhones
and its Cisco-based campus
wireless network, Duke
University on July 20 finally
got to the bottom of the
problem that caused periodic
outages of the Wi-Fi network.
Initial reports of
the problem placed the blame
for the outages squarely on
Apple's iPhones, which
flooded the Cisco WAPs
(Wireless Access Points) with
thousands of address requests
per second. However, in a
statement released this
afternoon, Cisco Systems
admitted that the problem was
caused by a Cisco glitch.
"Cisco has provided a fix
that has been applied to
Duke's network and the
problem has not occurred
since," the statement read.
Cisco did not describe what
the source of the problem was.
Late on June 20, Duke released
a statement elaborating on the
problem and how it was
resolved...

06.02.2007Gates: Windows Vista Has Had 'Incredible Reception'
Microsoft, the world's
largest software maker,
predicted that consumers would
move to Vista faster than they
did to past Windows upgrades.
The Windows franchise is the
centerpiece of Microsoft's
business because the company
makes more than 75 cents in
operating profit for every
dollar of sales. Microsoft
founder Bill Gates was asked
to clarify last week's
comments by Microsoft Chief
Executive Steve Ballmer that
analysts' forecasts for
fiscal 2008 revenue for the
Windows Vista operating system
were " overly
aggressive ". The response
was: " People who sell PCs
have seen a very nice lift in
their sales. People have come
in and wanted to buy
Vista ," Gates told
reporters at an Ottawa news
conference. Asked by Reuters
if there was anything that
would make Microsoft cautious
about the outlook for Vista,
Gates replied: " I don't
know what you mean. Vista's
had an incredible reception.
The reviews have been
fantastic. This is a big, big
advance in the Windows
platform. It's the world's
most used piece of software...
Overall, the reliability
feedback has been, well,
better than we
expected ."
To
be honest, I think Bill is a
little overly optimistic.
Vista will do well, no doubt
about that, but to say
"incredible reception" and
"fantastic reviews" is a
little short of exaggeration.
On the other hand, Microsoft
haters tend to get more
attention than anyone else. It
makes me wonder, if the
feedback they are receiving is
better than what they
expected, what exactly did
Microsoft expect as a response
to Vista?
