Intel has busted into Cray, securing a deal with the high performance computing specialist to slot Xeon processors in future systems.
Cray's latest line of hardware remains centered around AMD's Opteron processors. But now Intel will join the fold, starting in the 2010ish
time frame when Cray releases a new line of hardware dubbed the Cascade computers. This win marks a move by Intel to reach the highest-end of
supercomputing systems.

18.02.2009Windows 7: Cheaper Than Vista (and Every Other Windows OS)
It turns out, even if you don't weigh in all the
slightly confusing Windows
7 upgrade deals, Microsoft's latest OS is its least expensive to date, and a real bargain compared to Vista.
Looking
at full (non-upgrade) pricing of consumer Windows editions really tells the story: When you compare sticker prices, you can see that most editions
hovered around the $200 mark, with a rare spike found in the $260 Vista Home Premium. When you adjust for inflation, that fairly regular pricing
becomes a downward cascade—except for that Vista price hike...

26.06.2009Cray to Introduce 2 Supercomputers
Cray is preparing to bring two new supercomputers to market next year as it continues to try to group its various high-performance computer models
into a single family of machines.
On Nov. 6, the company will introduce the Cray XT5its first new supercomputer since the XT4's
unveiling in November 2006. The XT5 will offer a new computing blade that will support Advanced Micro Devices' dual- and quad-core Opteron
processors. The other supercomputer being introduced, the XT5h, is what the company calls a hybrid system that will support multiple microprocessor
architectures.
For Cray, the new family of systems represents the next piece in its "Rainier" program, which looks to bring the
company's different supercomputer architectures under one unified infrastructure. Cray's next program, "Cascade," will look to create a single
adaptive system for high-performance computing that will allow one machine to handle different computing tasks. The XT5h hybrid supercomputer is a
step toward that goal.

06.11.2007Anti-Gay Church Vows to Take Control of MSFT
An evangelical Christian pastor has vowed to take over Microsoft, one of the world's largest companies by packing it with shareholders who will vote
against their policy of advocating gay rights.
The Reverend Ken Hutcherson, a former Dallas Cowboys player is the self proclaimed head of
the Antioch Bible Church, based in Redmond, the home of Microsoft's headquarters.
Microsoft has a strong diversity policy and LGBT staff
enjoy a well-funded employee group.
Mr Hutcherson told a shareholders' meeting that he would be the company's "worst nightmare",
threatening that he has the support of not only the 3,500 members of his church, but perhaps also millions of evangelical Christians and orthodox
Jews.
"There are 256 Fortune 500 companies alone pouring millions upon millions of dollars into pushing the homosexual agenda," he told
the Daily Telegraph. "I consider myself a warrior for Christ. Microsoft don't scare me. I got God with me."
"I told them that you
need to work with me or we will put a fire-storm on you like you have never seen in you life because I am your worst nightmare. I am a black man with
a righteous cause with a whole host of powerful white people behind me."

18.11.2007[Summary] Keynote #2
The keynote began quite slowly, with Ray speaking about how PCs have evolved, and what the difference and advantages of each platform (PC, Web,
Phones) were.
After the lull at the beginning, however, it got interesting. With numerous screenshots and live demos of Windows 7 being
done, we got a first look at what Microsoft has been working on as of late.
With this release of Windows, Microsoft are really focusing
on usability, organization, connectivity, and performance (and as a result, speed). The new taskbar adapts with you; jumplists (a small tooltip-like
window that appears over application buttons both in the taskbar as well as in the start menu allow you to access commonly, and recently used
documents with only a couple of clicks, or pushes with your finger. The buttons in the taskbar can be moved around (finally, after years of closing
and opening apps in certain orders to organize taskbar buttons). The application windows are grouped within the buttons, and pop up as you hover over
them; live previews and interactivity with the windows is available through the small pop-up.
Apart from snazzy UI elements such as the
ability to make windows translucent at the push of a button, many useful organization and connectivity improvements have been made. When searching
through Windows Explorer, you are now provided search suggestions based on existing files, file types, and past searches. You can search all
throughout your network and its devices right from within explorer.
