NOD32 2.70.23

ESET NOD32 Antivirus offers superior, comprehensive protection, the fastest scanning throughput, and the least performance impact of any solution. Keep your important information safe & stay productive with peace of mind. Running separate applications for viruses, hackers, adware, and spyware can slow your PC, be difficult to manage, and provide questionable protection. Beware of large, bloated internet security suites that consume hundreds of megabytes on your PC. These typically exist because vendors have acquired products and 'bundled' them together. In contrast, ESET NOD32 was designed from the core as a single, highly-optimized engine that works as a unified Anti-Threat system to protect against a broad spectrum of malware. Viruses, worms, spyware, and other malicious attacks, which are constantly evolving. ESET NOD32 utilizes patent-pending ThreatSense® Technology to detect tomorrow's threats in real-time, by analyzing code execution for malicious intent - keeping you ahead of the malware-writers.

IPv6 exec says sound the alarm

The sky is falling on the number of global IP addresses, and IPv6 is the solution, executives from major technology companies said Wednesday.

The exhaustion of available IP addresses using IPv4 brought out the alarmist side of many industry executives. "It's a crisis -- not a market-oriented event," said Akinori Maemora, chairman of APNIC (Asia Pacific Network Information Centre), speaking at the Global IPv6 Summit in Beijing. "We have just three years until IPv4 addresses are depleted. These changes will come suddenly," he said.

Phenom X4 roadmap leaks out

On Monday, the rumor mill was grinding away about AMD's triple-core Phenom processors, which are supposedly due out in two flavors next March. Today, the topic has changed to AMD's quad-core Phenoms, and VR-Zone has now published a detailed roadmap of upcoming Phenom launches.

According to VR-Zone, AMD will start the Phenom offensive with two new processors in November: a Phenom X4 9500 clocked at 2.2GHz, and a Phenom X4 9600 clocked at 2.4GHz. Both chips will have 512KB of cache per core, 2MB of shared L3 cache, 3.6GHz HyperTransport speeds, and 89W thermal envelopes. In December, the site says AMD will release a Phenom X4 9700 clocked at 2.6GHz. That chip will have a 4GHz HT clock and a 125W thermal envelope.

Judging by the roadmap, we'll have to wait until 2008 for speedier Phenoms. VR-Zone says a Phenom FX-82 clocked at 2.6GHz or higher will come out in the first quarter of 2008, followed by additional Phenom 9000- and FX-series chips in the second quarter.

Mid-range 65nm GeForce 8 coming in November

There's currently a gap in Nvidia's GeForce 8 lineup between the $199 GeForce 8600 GTS and the $299 GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB. However, according to VR-Zone, Nvidia plans to introduce a new mid-range graphics card that may very well fill that gap in November.

The card will feature a new G92 graphics processor that will be based on 65nm process technology, just like the RV630 and RV610 GPUs in AMD's new Radeon HD 2600 and 2400 cards. The G92 will feature a 256-bit memory interface and will support the PCI Express 2.0 specification, which offers twice the bandwidth of first-generation PCIe.

Performance of G92-based products will lie somewhere between that of the 8800 GTS and 8600 GTS, VR-Zone says, so a price tag in the $200-300 range seems likely (unless, of course, prices for those two products drop significantly between now and November).
