Dan, from Duluth, or 'goldeneyemaster' as he is known, told the game spot forum here that he thinks the main reason that the xBox 360 freezes is because the power supply overheats. The solution is to lift the power supply off the floor and allow the air to circulate better around it.

11.3.2008Call of Duty: World at War performance in-depth
Considering the high expectations built around Call of Duty: World at War it will be interesting to see how the game stacks up against other competing
shooters, but perhaps most importantly how it compares or improves upon last year's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare which was an all-around success
on the PC platform. 'World at War' was built using an enhanced version of the CoD 4 engine which should come as great news for PC gamers. Not
only do we expect this game to look really good because of that, but it should also fair quite well on systems with modest specifications.

17.11.2008Call of Duty 4 In The Works
A reliable source close to the
Call of Duty development teams
has revealed not only the
existence of Call of Duty 4,
but vital details surrounding
the game as well, including
the fact that it will be based
on modern combat.
According to our source,
Call of Duty 4 will be
developed by Infinity Ward,
the developer behind the first
and second installments. The
three-way deal established
between Infinity Ward,
Treyarch, and Activision
states that Infinity Ward will
develop all even numbered
titles while Treyarch develops
the odd numbered games, such
as Call of Duty 3. Treyarch
did develop Call of Duty 2:
Big Red One as well,
however.
As
aforementioned, Call of Duty 4
is said to step away from the
war torn locales of World War
II, instead focusing on the
battlefields of present day.
It is unknown if it will take
the same path as Electronic
Arts' Battlefield franchise,
placing the spotlight on the
Middle East.
The
source compared Call of Duty
4's technical achievements to
other games saying that while
most shooters have two or
three critical points on the
head, Call of Duty 4 has 16,
saying that you can shoot the
side of an opponent's helmet
to make it spin on their head,
or knock the helmet clean off.
Supposedly you will even be
able to shoot an enemy's ear
off.
Although Call
of Duty's single player has
always been a mainstay of the
franchise, the multiplayer is
certainly something to write
home about. Our source has
said that there have been
multiplayer bouts with 54
players. PC gamers will be
happy to know that they will
be able to join the action
once again, as Infinity Ward
is supposed to be bringing
Call of Duty 4 to the PC as
well as consoles. Call of Duty
3 is only available on
consoles and eventually the
PSP.

08.11.2006Is Microsoft Playing Games With XP SP3?
Call it a Hamlet moment for the PC industry, filled with political intrigue and machinations worthy of the great Shakespeare play: to wait for XP SP3
or move to Vista now that Microsoft has released Vista SP1? Or in other words: "To XP, or not to XP?" That is the question.
It's a
question that is burning up the blogosphere with some speculating that Microsoft has delayed XP SP3, a long awaited release that could boost the
performance of XP, to get more users to adopt Vista, a potential cash cow for Microsoft and PC makers given the operating system's robust hardware
refresh requirements.
With many in the blogosphere speculating that Microsoft could release the final version of XP SP3 this week,
Microsoft late Tuesday snuffed out all hope that users would see the service pack, originally slated for release in 2006, any time soon.

05.03.2008XP SP3: TechNet and MSDN subscribers to get beta in two weeks
Microsoft provided an update on the timing for Windows XP Service Pack (SP) 3 on August 29.
Company officials said on Wednesday
that the Windows team plans to deliver a near-public beta of XP SP3 (its going to all TechNet and Microsoft Developer Network subscribers) by
mid-September.
The final version of XP SP3 is slated to hit some time in the first half of calendar 2008, officials said. (Thats
the same date the Softies have been promising officially for a while now. Microsoft wont be any more specific on XP SP3 timing.)
Company officials did not release a feature set for XP SP3 on August 29. The only new piece of information available was the public-beta due
date.
Microsoft made available to a set of private testers a preview of XP SP3 earlier in August. I saw an alleged fix list at
that time: It consisted of nearly 1,000 items.
The last time Microsoft provided a cumulative update to Windows XP was in 2004,
when it released XP SP2.

29.08.2007Microsoft Halts XP SP3 Update to HP PCs Running AMD CPU's
The recent Windows XP Service Pack 3 update has left certain AMD-based PCs manufactured by Hewlett-Packard caught in an endless reboot cycle caused by
an Intel-specific disk image mistakenly being used with AMD hardware. According to the Microsoft Update Product Team Blog, "The problem is a registry
value, present on images created with Intel processors, that causes a driver (intelppm.sys) to load at boot."
In order to fix the problem,
Microsoft has temporarily blocked these AMD machines from getting the service pack while it cobbles together an alternative update. While some users
wait for Microsoft's fix to eventually be released, others have turned to a former Microsoft employee, Jesper Johansson,
who coded up a free tool to detect and fix the problem and made
it available last Wednesday. Once Johansson's fix has been implemented, users can update their systems to SP3 without any problems.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release to Web (RTW) Delayed!
In the last few days, we have uncovered a compatibility issue between Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS) and SP3 both Windows XP and
Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). In order to make sure customers have the best possible experience, we have decided to delay releasing Windows XP
Service Pack 3 (SP3) to the web.
To help protect customers, we plan to put filtering in place shortly to prevent Windows Update from
offering both service packs to systems running Microsoft Dynamics RMS. Once filtering is in place, we expect to release Windows XP SP3 to the web. We
are also testing a fix, and will make it available once that process is complete. Once they have installed the fix, Microsoft Dynamics RMS customers
should be able to run both service packs.
Until then, we advise Microsoft Dynamics RMS customers to not install either service pack.
Microsoft Dynamics RMS customers running Windows XP SP3 or Windows Vista SP1 should contact Microsoft Customer Support Services for additional
information.

Windows XP SP3 Yields Performance Gains Over Vista SP1
After a disappointing showing by Windows Vista SP1 (see previous post), we were pleasantly surprised to discover that Windows XP Service Pack 3
(v.3244) delivers a measurable performance boost to this aging desktop OS. Testing with OfficeBench showed an 10% performance boost vs. the same
configuration running under Windows XP w/Service Pack 2.
Since SP3 was supposed to be mostly a bug-fix/patch consolidation release - unlike
w/Vista SP1, Microsoft made no promises of improved performance for XP - the unexpected speed boost comes as a nice bonus. In fact, XP SP3 is
shaping-up to be a "must have" update for the majority of users who are still running Redmond's not-so-latest and greatest desktop
OS.
Of course, none of this bodes well for Vista, which is now more than 2x slower than the most current builds of its older sibling.
Suffice to say that performance-minded users will likely choose to stick with the now even speedier Windows XP - at least until more "Windows
7" information becomes publicly available.

Call of Duty on Steam? Call of Duty 2? Gun? Yup.
Activision
a> and Valve announced
today that Steam
will now offer 4 of
Activisions popular games very
soon, in fact later this month
though an exact date wasn't
given. The 4 titles that will
be offered and the prices
are:
- Call of
Duty -
ร.95
- C
all of Duty: United Offensive
-
ร.95
- G
un -
ร.95
- C
all of Duty 2 -
ื.95
Activision, seeing the obvious
opportunity here made a wise
choice. What with the recent
Triton debacle, and the
unproven EA Downloader, Steam
is really the only "big dog"
in the online distribution
realm. There are others of
course, such as Stardock's
own service, but Steam has
over 10 million users, and
that is a huge number
folks. <
div>In unrelated news, City
Life the recent "city
building" game released by
Monte Cristo is also now
available on Steam for
ื.95 and just yesterday
the critically loved
Psychonauts was also added to
the Steam universe for
ร.95. It is pretty
obvious that Valve is moving
Steam away from the original
premise of a hardcore gamers
platform, to more of an all
around get everything and the
kitchen sink platform. And
this alone makes Steam a very
important service. You can now
get every imaginable game
genre on Steam (I think) not
to mention casual games such
as Pop Cap's back
catalog.
Good game Valve, good
game.
