8.2.2007Apple, AT&T to offer no-contract iPhones
Looks like we'll have to get up bright and early to buy the new iPhone. Also, AT&T says a "no-commitment" iPhone is "coming soon."
First things first: The new iPhone 3G will go on sale at 8 a.m. next Friday at AT&T retail stores and Apple stores. So if you're planning on
lining up, you'd better be ready well before sunrise.
Also, AT&T has finally clarified pricing for current AT&T subscribers who want
the iPhone 3G.
In a nutshell, if you're "upgrade eligible" (log into your AT&T account to see if you are), you'll be able to
buy the new iPhone for the discounted price of $199 for the 8GB version or $299 for the 16GB model. (AT&T is somewhat vague about the
eligibility criteria, although your credit history and the time remaining on your contract are factors.) You'll also have to pay an $18
"upgrade fee."
If you're not eligible for the discount, you'll have to fork over extra for an "early upgrade"-$399 for the
8GB iPhone 3G or $499 for the 16GB model. Ouch.
AT&T also says that a "no-commitment" (read: no contract) iPhone 3G will be available
soon, at $599 for the 8GB version and or $699 for the 16GB handset. Pricey, but hey-no two-year contract.

02.07.2008Refurbished iPhone 3G's appear in Best Buy Mobile stores
Want an iPhone 3G, but would really like a few more bucks taken off of the price tag before you commit? Well, your chance has arrived, as long as
you're willing to take a slight gamble, that is. The US based retailer, Best Buy, has announced that they will begin to carry refurbished iPhone
3G's in 350 of their Best Buy Mobile locations. The 8GB variant of Apple's hugely popular device will sell for $149 and the 16GB model
will retail for $249. Of course, those prices still require you to sign a two year commitment to AT&T Mobility. You'll also have to realize
the risks of buying a refurbished device.

25.02.2009UltraSn0w unlocks any 3G iPhone
The iPhone Dev Team has released a video demonstrating a new unlocking method for all iPhone 3G's. The new unlock will be able to unlock the 3G
iPhone running 3.0 firmware regardless of baseband or bootloader, where in the past has prevented future unlocking of the iPhone. The new tool,
replacing the previous YellowSn0w, will be called UltraSn0w on Friday, after Apple has released the 3.0 firmware and can make last minute adjustments.
UltraSn0w will both unlock and jailbreak the iPhone. Jailbreaking is what allows the device to run unsigned applications that are not distributed by
Apple. This new method will work on the iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G running 3.0.

11.07.20083G iPhone Coming in 2008
Apple's iPhone has been slighted for many reasons, including its price, contract obligations and lack of modern 3G wireless data ability. While the
issue of price has been diluted with a $200 price cut, and contractual obligations made all but moot with the public release of the iUnlock
software, the iPhone is still limited to the slower EDGE data service.UK website Pocket-Lint is reporting that Steve Jobs has just announced that a
3G-enabled iPhone is on the way for 2008. No specific date or even a quarter was given, only the abstract "next year."
With the
proliferation of wireless data access overseas it's no surprise that Jobs made this announcement at a London Apple store - but it may have the side
effect of hurting sales of the first-generation iPhone, scheduled to launch in the UK on November 9th through O2.
Jobs also clarified why
3G connectivity was left out of the iPhone thus far; and as was clearly shown by AnandTech, battery life was the driving reason. But Jobs is
optimistic that future models of the iPhone will have better technology allowing for both 3G and the promised 8 hours of call time.

The unofficial iPhone dev team have confirmed moments ago that they have completed an iPhone 3G unlock and are currently packaging a user-friendly
application with the simplicity that you see in other applications from the team like QuickPwn. The update will be released on New Years Eve and will
require a jailbroken iPhone and 2.11.07 baseband or earlier. Jailbreaking is a method of unofficially hacking the device and allowing it to run 3rd
party applications not available on Apple's official AppStore. The latest iPhone 2.2 software updates the baseband beyond 2.11.07 and it is
recommended that if you want a 3G unlock that you do not update to 2.2 using iTunes alone.

27.08.2008iPhone goes on sale in France for $1100
Following a recent ruling by local regulators, French consumers can now purchase an iPhone 3G without signing a service contract with Apple-sanctioned
wireless carrier Orange, assuming they're willing to digest a considerable markup...
MacNN notes that French retailer FNAC is now
selling a contract-free version of the black 8GB iPhone for €799 ($1,123), while black or white 16GB models are fetching €899 ($1,263).
That's more than five times the €149 in-contract cost for the 8GB model announced by Orange back in July, and considerably more than similar
contract-free offerings in Belgium priced at €529 and €619.
The iPhones on sale at FNAC are believed to be the result of a ruling earlier
this month by the French competition counsel, which ordered Apple to immediately cease its exclusive relationship with France Telecom's Orange and
allow other local carriers to offer the iPhone to their subscribers.
