4.8.2009Windows 7 build 7227 leaks
Not a week goes by these days without a Windows 7 leak so why should this week be any different? Last week it was 7201 and this time around it is
7227. The build tag is 7227.0.winmain_sp.090602-2110 indicating that the build is just over a week old. As ever the build is available at the usual
places. According to Russian site Wzor, sometime between June 10th and June 15th, the last build handed out to corporate partners will be
distributed. The build will be 6.1.7229.0.winmain.090604-1901. After this only RTM candidate builds will be compiled. None of these builds will be
distributed externally to partners. Officially Microsoft has targeted mid to late July as the RTM date for Windows 7.

10.06.2009Windows 7 build 7229 leaked
Another Windows 7 build has leaked. This time it's build 7229. Sources are indicating that unless there is a leak internally from Microsoft, this
would be last build leaked before the RTM. The build string is 7229.0.090604-1901 meaning that it was compiled a week ago. Earlier this week, build
7227 leaked to the public. Initial reports indicate that you can not use your RC keys with this build, so if you want to activate properly you
should not upgrade to this build. Windows 7 is still on track for a July RTM, and it's possible that it may even RTM by the end of June.
Microsoft has announced that it will be available in stores October 22nd.

12.06.2009Windows Vista Build 5219 to be
released at MS PDC
Microsoft will tomorrow
release a refreshed build of
Windows Vista at it's
Professional Developer's
Conference.
Thi
s build is 5219.
No. It is not
Beta 2. No. It is not Beta 1.
Yes. It is newer than Beta
1. It is a pre-beta-2 build.
Screenshots leaked
onto the internet earlier
today have led people to
erroneously claim that the
5219 build compiled on 050824
(24 August, 2005) is the build
that will be released at
PDC.
This is
untrue. Contrary to popular
belief, every new build
generated is not necessarily
automatically incremented by
1. If this were true, the
correct 5219 build (more on
that below) would have been
one compiled before 050824.
Thus the 5219 050824 build
would not exist. We have
confirmed that the 0824 build
is a legitimate build which
was issued to OEM partners for
testing. Did you leak these
screenshots IBM as you did the
screenshots of the 5203 build?
Build 5219
compiled on 050830 (30 August
2005) is the one that will be
released at PDC.
How is that
possible? Simple. Microsoft
compiled mutiple builds of
5219 over the period of at
least a week before finally
declaring 050830 as the final
build for
5219.
Among the
changes from 0824 to 0830 is
the fact that the sidebar
visible in 0824 has been
removed in the 0830 build.

11.02.2009Windows 7 build 7137 leaked
Barely two weeks after build 7127 leaked we have another fresh leak of Windows 7, build 7137. This time around the build tag is 7137.0.090521-1745
meaning this build is only a week old. As ever the build is available at the usual places but it might be worth waiting until RTM as a lot of Windows
7 torrents have been hit by malware and viruses recently. Microsoft is still on target to finalise Windows 7 over the summer with a general
availability this fall. Un-official wallpaper not included by default, thanks to djlegion for the screenshots.

28.05.2009Windows 7 reaches build 7068
A Microsoft Employee, in his blog post explaining about the new Windows 7 Gadgets platform, ended up posting the initial Windows 7 build 7068
screenshot. The screenshot is just the Windows 7 Desktop but the build string is clearly visible - 7068.winmain.090321-1322 - which means that this
build 7068 was compiled on March 21, 2009. It was also rumored earlier that Windows 7 build 7068 is released on Microsoft Connect to a select group
of testers. WinFuture reports that this build might have been released to the Windows 7 TAP Customers, who get involved closely with Microsoft in beta
testing their products.

Starting December 12th, the

test delivery of update build
packages via WU. We would like

participants as possible to

this way. To try this out,
prepare a Windows Server 2003
Service Pack 1 machine, then
download and run the registry
key file located at http://conne

The following key
values will be set in the
registry:
Adding
these values will enable users
to see the RC via WU. There is
no code difference between the
update RC build delivered via
WU, and the standalone update
RC build previously made
available on the Connect site.

of 6.1.7264.0.win7_rtm.090622-1900 meaning that it was complied last week. Wzor is stating that the latest build is 6.1.7265.0.win7_rtm.090624-1905.
We're still waiting for the final RTM, which is rumored to be signed off on July 13th. Note: Users are reporting that the RC keys do not work

Windows 7 build 7022 leaks
Microsoft are currently working hard towards the Release Candidate of Windows 7. Currently the only official build available to testers and the
general public is build 7000 but we have learned that 7022 has leaked to the internet today. According to a Russian torrent site it was leaked by
"friendly" Microsoft Ukraine individuals. It's not likely that the build contains any of the UAC changes Microsoft has recently promised. The
build is Build 7022.winmain.090115-1850 which indicates it was built nearly a month ago. Some Microsoft employees have twittered recently that they
were "installing build 7034" so the company is clearly pushing ahead with the builds ready for the upcoming Release Candidate.

Windows 7: Build 7057 blocks third-party video codecs
The latest beta of Windows 7 blocks the usage of third party video decoders from Windows Media Player and MCE. Albain, a DirectShow (ffdshow)
developer explains in his own words what he encountered when he was testing the multimedia pipeline of Windows 7 in the latest build 7057.
"Microsoft has locked mpeg4 and h264 codecs into Media Foundation, the replacer of DirectShow (even if directshow is still supported). There is no way
to override those codecs, even if you develop a Media Foundation version of your decoder, because Microsoft maintains a list of preferred codecs
(their codecs) into the registry (HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and HKLM \MediaFoundation\Transforms\Preferred), and this registry key cannot be
modified, even in admin mode.

Microsoft to RTM Windows 7 this week? Build 7260 leaks
Earlier today Neowin reported that Windows 7 build 7232 had leaked. What a difference a few more hours makes, now 7260 has leaked and the Russian site
Wzor claims that Microsoft will build the RTM (release to manufacturing) build between June 15-19. If Wzor is correct, and that's a big if and
rumour, then we may see the final Windows 7 RTM build ready this weekend. Internal sources indicate that 7260 is still the latest build under the
win7_rtm branch. Build 7260 carries the tag 7260.win7_rtm.090612-2110 and is an RTM escrow build meaning vigorous testing will commence to ensure this
is the final code unless there are show stopper bugs.

unveil that it has finished Windows 7. 7.7600.16384.090710-1945 is the potential final build number and we're still expecting the company to
announce the finalisation of Windows 7 at the annual Worldwide Partner Conference on Monday providing there are no last minute recompiles. Windows 7
has been in development since mid to late 2008 and build 7600 will mark the end of the beta phase and on to servicing and then general availability on
