AMD not eliminating ATI brand, reports false
One of the unforeseen ramifications of the AMD-ATI hookup is the new hyper-rumor-transport bus, a new technology whereby unsubstantiated rumors become fact at an alarming rate. I lamented this sad state of affairs a few weeks ago when patently false information regarding motherboard licensing was making its way around the 'net, and now we get to do it again.

02.03.2009WDDM Overhaul On The Way
Microsoft is to overhaul
Windows? graphic driver model
after realising that the
Windows Display Driver Model
(WDDM) 1.0 ? which will ship
with Vista ? needs improvement
in the way it shares GPU
resources between programs and
Windows itself.
Steve Pronovost of
Microsoft?s DirectX team
disclosed at WinHEC in Seattle
last week that although the
WDDM 1.0 introduces some
rudimentary task scheduling
for GPUs, a new generation of
GPU hardware and a major
architectural change to the
way Windows deals with video
cards will be required.
He said that the
trouble with WDDM 1.0 is that
once one program is using the
GPU, other programs are shut
out until the process
completes. In Vista, that can
cause less fluid rendering of
on-screen graphics, if
multiple programs are trying
to use GPU resources at
once.

18.06.2008AMD Plans Another GPU SKU
AMD has a new ATI Radeon HD
2000-series graphics processor
in the pipeline slated for
Q42007. The new RV670 GPU is
not an ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT
replacement, but rather an
additional product to AMDs
current midrange lineup. Very
little detail is known about
RV670 right now.
DailyTech speculates the
upcoming RV670 should fill in
the large pricing gap left
between the ATI Radeon HD 2600
XT and the HD 2900 XT, similar
to how RV570 joined the
X1000-family as the X1950 Pro.
AMD has had a rough
launch with its ATI Radeon HD
2000-series GPUs. After months
of delay, the ATI Radeon HD
2900 XT hit the market with
performance barely able to
keep up with the months old
GeForce 8800 GTS. The 1GB ATI
Radeon HD 2900 XT has
essentially become a niche
product, with low production
numbers and performance that
barely edges out its 512MB
brethren. ..

ATI, graphics product group of Advanced Micro Devices, has demonstrated working samples of its ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4000-series graphics processors

some time now. In fact, code-named ATI M98-L and ATI M96 passed PCI Express compatibility validation at PCI-SIG sometime in June, however, since then
both products have disappeared from the list.

The tech is available for Intel Centrino 2 laptops that run Microsoft Windows Vista operating system.
ATI Switchable Graphics technology is
a joint effort between ATI/AMD and Intel Corp. to provide users of Intel Centrino 2 notebooks the best features of various graphics adapters:
performance and feature-set of discrete GPU and power-efficiency of integrated graphics processor (IGP). A similar technology was also developed by

05.05.2006ATI Set to Launch Offensive with ATI Radeon HD 3000 Pricing
ATI, graphics product group of Advanced Micro Devices, may lower the pricing of its ATI Radeon HD 3000-series graphics processing units (GPUs) weeks
after the introduction in an attempt to recapture the lost market share from the No. 1 discrete GPU supplier Nvidia Corp. The decision will allow
add-in board manufacturers to decrease the prices to end-users.
śTwo weeks after the launch, the ATI RV670 drops the price,ť a
said familiar with the matter told X-bit labs.
The ATI Radeon HD 3850 with 256MB of GDDR3 memory begins at $179 manufactured
suggested retail price (MSRP) and the ATI Radeon HD 3870 with 512MB GDDR4 memory from $219 MSRP, available from AMDs selected graphics products
partners. Unfortunately, not all suppliers of graphics cards could get the new boards on time from AMD.

06.09.2005TechSpot: ATI Radeon HD 5970 Reviewed, Dual-GPU Graphics
As we discussed in our preliminary Radeon 5870 review, on ATI's horizon ATI was a follow-up to the Radeon HD 4870 X2, code-named "Hemlock XT",
which in essence would put together a pair of Radeon HD 5870 GPUs on a single PCB. Today AMD is officially unveiling the Hemlock as the new ATI
Radeon HD 5970, hoping to expand its current dominance in single-GPU performance with the fastest single-slot graphics card on the market -- a title
that until today was reserved for Nvidia's dual-GPU GeForce GTX 295. The Radeon HD 5970 looks to be well suited for the job.
