Open Letter to Steve Ballmer
Steve, I've heard you're making a tough decision about Yahoo. I know what you should do. It's time to step back and walk away. Yahoo's not worth the trouble. If you force an acquisition, your legacy will be mud not Mesh.

30.10.2008Trojan, distributed over torrent, blocks torrent sites
A trojan named Troj/Qhost-AC, has been spotted on torrent sites labeled as a keygen for popular software. But in a strange surprise, the trojan would
modify the users host file, rather than generating a key, changing popular torrent web sites like, The Pirate Bay, Suprbay (The Pirate Bay forum) and
Mininova, the two most popular torrent sites on the internet to 127.0.0.1, making it impossible to visit these sites. The Trojan caused pop-ups on
users screens and played a sound file saying "downloading is wrong". The Trojan didn't install any other spyware or malware onto the victims
PC, other than blocking the three web sites, something that many users thought was strange.

06.01.2009Office 2010 Has Leaked!
The Technical Preview of Office 2010 has officially leaked! WZor.net uploaded a torrent a few hours ago for both the x86 and x64 versions of the
new Office suite.
Without further ado, I present:
Microsoft Office 2010 (x86)
AND
Microsoft Office 2010 (x64)
The x64
torrent doesn't seem to be very active at the moment, but over time, as it gains more seeders, hopefully it will pick up. We were achieving speeds of
up to 1000kbps during our download of the x86 version, so the torrent is going strong... That is, until the rest of the world picks up on it...
Download quickly!
While you eagerly await the end of your download, check out a screenshot gallery from WZor as well (the version pictured
in the screenshots is the x64 version).
The links in this article were obtained from WZor's homepage, http://wzor.net/indexx.html

Australia has been known to have high levels of censorship. It should come as no surprise to those in the land down under that the government is
planning to filter P2P and Bit Torrent traffic in live pilot tests. Senator Conroy went on the record saying "technology that filters peer-to-peer
and Bit Torrent traffic does exist and it is anticipated that the effectiveness of this will be tested in the live pilot trial". It is a drastic
step to filter out all P2P and Bit Torrent traffic as it assumes that those channels are only used for piracy. One example of legitimate use is the
popular online game World of Warcraft.

23.12.2008"txtor" tool circumvents basic torrent blockers
To the frustration of many students and other avid torrent downloaders, some universities and ISPs have been known to block the download of .torrent
files in an effort to curb illegal file sharing. This quick and dirty method of filtering Internet content is usually done through the use of a proxy
server that will look for a torrent mime-type in the file or, even simpler, the file extension itself. Although this method seems almost too simple to
take seriously, enough admins have found it effective enough to justify its use.
That's why a group of developers launched
txtor today, a site that makes it possible to download .torrent files as if they were text
files. As the site explains, from the user perspective, the service functions very simply. Plug in the URL of a torrent file, and it's translated to
a text file for you to download. For a moderately more technical explanation, the site merely takes the file and changes the mimetype and extension,
then spits it back out at you as a text file in order to bypass proxy-level torrent file blocks. Then, all you need to do is change the file extension
back from .txt to .torrent and open it up in your favorite torrent client. Based on our testing of txtor, we can say that the tool works exactly as
advertised.

28.09.2007Controversy over new Pirate Bay Facebook feature
The Pirate Bay has added a small, but significant feature to their website which will almost certainly prove to be controversial. The new feature is a
link provided on each torrent page which allows users to post the link to the particular torrent onto their Facebook profile. Friends can then begin
to download the particular torrent straight from their Facebook page, assuming a torrent client is installed. Many websites allow their users to do
the very same thing – even Neowin allows its users to submit news articles to Facebook; however the controversy lies in just what users will be
sharing, with the use of this.

property', think creatively about the future of distribution, production and creativity .” For those still confused, Steal This Film is a
series documenting the movement against intellectual property. The films discuss piracy culture as well as raids against file sharing websites. In the
spirit of piracy, the movie is completely free for download.

Recently, I think we saw the effect of this boil over. But first, before we get into that, I think we need to examine who he is and what he has

23.09.2008Windows 7 leaks to Web, pirates downloading
Leaked copies of Windows 7 hit the Internet only hours after Microsoft Corp. handed out a preview build to developers last week, according to searches
at several BitTorrent-tracking sites. The notorious Pirate Bay site, for example, first noted the 32-bit version of the upcoming operating system on
Oct. 29, just one day after Microsoft unveiled Windows 7 to attendees at its Professional Developers Conference in Los Angeles. A 64-bit edition was
posted the following day.
As of midday Sunday, with several copies of Windows 7 available, downloading was brisk. One 32-bit torrent listed
on Pirate Bay showed more than 1,400 "seeders," the term for a computer that has a complete copy of the torrent file, and close to 5,300
"leechers," or computers that have downloaded only part of the complete torrent. The 32-bit torrent installs a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, according
to users commenting on the site.

03.11.2008Vista SP1 x86 appears on Torrent Sites
In the last few days, certain Neowin forum members have reported that an image of Vista SP1 x86 Final has leaked to torrent sites. This file is
supposedly a slipstreamed image of the final Service Pack 1 for Vista x86. It is allegedly available in various languages, including English. Since
many believe that this is indeed the download that Microsoft will provide in the upcoming weeks, I would like to emphasize that this is not the case.
This release is not official, nor is it genuine. I repeat: Vista SP1 has not gone final.
Neowin members are reporting that the file in
question may be SP1 Refresh 2 slipstreamed or simply a malware-filled release. I would like to remind our members not to post links to any Vista SP1
build, unless it comes directly from Microsoft’s servers.

04.03.2008Google Says Apple Owns the Letter "i", and Craigslist the "s"
louisgray.com: Search engines work
best when they have specific phrases to search for, or better yet, when they have parameters for when the Web page was posted. But if you get more
abstract, going to single words or even letters, they typically don't know where to start in terms of finding what you want. Taking a look at
Google's first answers for the letters of the Roman alphabet, it's interesting to see what the
search index is guessing as the best answers. Google gives its own
Gmail the letter "g", cedes
Apple the letter "i", and
Craigslist

Yahoo!, effectively dividing the alphabet as
cleanly as the many nations who have laid claim to a slice of Antarctica.

Samsung pursuing an aquisition of SanDisk
Samsung Electronics revealed, yesterday, that it has been conducting ongoing discussion with SanDisk Corporation regarding a possible purchase of
SanDisk by Samsung. After 4 months of talks and no progress, Samsung has made public it's latest letter to the SanDisk board of directors in which
the company reiterates the, what it feels to be, generous offer of $26 US per share. SanDisk's stock rests at $20.92 at market close,
today.
In the letter, Samsung CEO and vice chairman, Yoon-Woo Lee, is very direct about his company's offer and the current state of
SanDisk's market value. "SanDisk continues to cling to unrealistic expectations on both its standalone market value and an appropriate merger
price," says Lee in his letter. He then goes on to address concerns SanDisk brought up in a previous letter to Samsung, "...your letter states that
our proposed price does not 'reflect the intrinsic value of SanDisk’s business' and references the 52-week high. The world has changed
dramatically in the past 52 weeks as can be seen from SanDisk’s own disappointing results."
Upon news of a possible purchase of the
company by Samsung, SanDisk's shares rose $5.88 US.

ThePirateBay owners may face prison time
ThePirateBay owners, Hans Fredrik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm Warg, Peter Sunde and Carl Lundströmare set to appear in court on Monday and could
face two years in prison and a fine as high as $180,000 fine each. The four owners of the very popular public torrent web site face charges of
copyright infringement. The servers are located out of Sweden and out of reach of law enforcement, meaning the site will likely stay online if the
owners go behind bars. ThePirateBay is known for hosting torrent files linking users to movies, software, games and other types of copyright material
that is illegal spread among users using P2P protocol and a BitTorrent client.
