Inside one of the world's largest data centers

On the outside, Microsoft's massive new data center resembles the other buildings in the industrial area.

Even the inside of the building doesn't look like that much. The ground floor looks like a large indoor parking lot filled with a few parked trailers.

It's what's inside those trailers, though, that is the key to Microsoft's cloud-computing efforts. Each of the shipping containers in the Chicago data center houses anywhere from 1,800 to 2,500 servers, each of which can be serving up e-mail, managing instant messages, or running applications for Microsoft's soon-to-be-launched cloud-based operating system--Windows Azure...

Apple bashes Windows 7 at WWDC

Apple is announcing new MacBooks, new iPhones and its next generation OS, Snow Leopard today but during its Keynote at WWDC they dug hard at Microsoft. Bertrand Serlet, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering at Apple, took the stage and began digging at Vista saying "what a big hole Microsoft has dug," and adding that "they're trying to get out of it with Windows 7." He carried on following up with an attack of Windows 7 saying it has "even more complexity" than Vista because it's just based on the "same old tech as Vista." Apple is notorious for attacking Windows based PCs in its Get A Mac adverts. Thanks to Engadget for the following picture:

Apple keen to push Safari 3.1 on Windows users.

If you run iTunes or QuickTime or any Apple software on your Windows PC, but not Safari, you might have seen an uninvited guest show up in the Apple Software Update earlier this week. Yes, Apple thinks you need yet another browser. They tried to slip the new Safari 3.1 in for iTunes owners, a move that has some Windows users up in arms.

The program is usually used for updating Apple software, and so getting new software with the deal wasn't something a lot of users expected. And users who don't do anything but the default, are basically going to be getting software they didn't plan to have.

Microsoft introduces Apple-like tours of Windows 7
