The death of Wikipedia?

Wikipedia, the encyclopedia that "anyone can edit," was a nice experiment in the "democratization" of publishing, but it didn't quite work out. Wikipedia is dead. It died the way the pure products of idealism always do, slowly and quietly and largely in secret, through the corrosive process of compromise.

Fortune names Steve Jobs 'CEO of the decade'

Fortune magazine has named Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, as "CEO of the decade". In an article confirming the title, Fortune wrote: "How's this for a gripping corporate story line: Youthful founder gets booted from his company in the 1980s, returns in the 1990s, and in the following decade survives two brushes with death, one securities-law scandal, an also-ran product lineup, and his own often unpleasant demeanor to become the dominant personality in four distinct industries, a billionaire many times over, and CEO of the most valuable company in Silicon Valley." Jobs has certainly turned Apple around.

Steve Jobs may be off work at the moment, folks, but that doesn't mean he isn't working. That's right, even after taking a leave of absence from Apple, co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs is still involved with the major projects that Apple is working on right now. According to AppleInsider, Jobs played a big part in the recent iPhone OS 3.0 release, and is apparently working on a tablet-size device, bigger than an iPhone but smaller than a MacBook. Rumors about an Apple tablet have been flying around for ages, even more so lately, but if sources close to Jobs himself say he's working on it, then there's a good chance that there's something going on.

Apple finishes with Think Secret, targets Fake Steve Jobs

Apple Incorporated’s lawyers have found a new target: the fake Steve Jobs. Daniel Lyons, a senior editor at Forbes, is the author of the blog “The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs”, which is written by him in first person, as if it were Jobs himself writing. Most blog entries are simply little snippets of what’s happening in the tech world, usually completely irrelevant to Jobs or even Apple. The lawyers are, however, interested in three posts that they “deem to be actionable”. They emphasize, of course, that they don’t want to take any legal action and that it’s all up to Lyons. Apparently, the lawyers just want to talk about the problem and not actually take anyone to court or send them a cease-and-desist letter.

Steve Jobs Still Involved in Apple, Still Expected to Return in June

The Wall Street Journal reports that despite his medical leave, Steve Jobs has remained very involved in Apple's strategies and planning:

Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook runs the day-to-day operations at Apple, these people say. But Mr. Jobs has continued to work on the company's most important strategies and products from home, they say. He regularly reviews products and product plans, and was particularly involved in the user interface of the new iPhone operating system that Apple unveiled last month, these people say.

Apple announced in January that Steve Jobs would take a medical leave of absence from the company until June and that Tim Cook would take over day-to-day operations.

According to the Wall Street Journal's sources, Apple remains "much the same" as before Steve Jobs' departure and Jobs is still expected to return to Apple in June. Jobs reportedly did not respond to requests for comment but Apple spokesman Steve Dowling is quoted as saying "Steve continues to look forward to returning to Apple at the end of June."

Jobs suggests Dell should eat his words

It may not be the last laugh, but on Friday afternoon, after the close of the stock market, Steve Jobs, the chief executive of Apple Computer, shared an e-mail chuckle with his employees at the expense of Dell, a big rival.

The message was prompted by the 12 percent surge in Apple's stock price last week, which pushed the company's market capitalization to $72.13 billion, passing Dell's value of $71.97 billion.

In 1997, shortly after Jobs returned to Apple, the company he helped start in 1976, Dell's founder and chairman, Michael Dell, was asked at a technology conference what might be done to fix Apple, then deeply troubled financially. ..
