Cray Computer Founder Joins Microsoft
Microsoft confirmed on Friday that Burton Smith, formerly the chief scientist for Cray, would be joining the company as a technical fellow. Smith will work to expand Microsoft's efforts in parallel and high-performance computing, and would report to chief technical officier Craig Mundie.
Smith had worked with Cray since its inception as Tera Computer Co. in 1988. He has also published several works on issues regarding parallel computing. "As microprocessor technology continues to evolve over the next decade or so, we're going to see the capabilities of a supercomputer cluster on the desktop which will require a different software architecture," Mundie said. "Burton will be investigating how to develop software to benefit from the opportunities which multi-core multiprocessors will present."

The death of Wikipedia?
Wikipedia, the encyclopedia that "anyone can edit," was a nice experiment in the "democratization" of publishing, but it didn't quite work out. Wikipedia is dead. 18.9.2006Fortune names Steve Jobs 'CEO of the decade'
Fortune magazine has named Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, as "CEO of the decade". In an article confirming the title, Fortune wrote: "How's this for
a gripping corporate story line: Youthful founder gets booted from his company in the 1980s, returns in the 1990s, and in the following decade
survives two brushes with death, one securities-law scandal, an also-ran product lineup, and his own often unpleasant demeanor to become the dominant
personality in four distinct industries, a billionaire many times over, and CEO of the most valuable company in Silicon Valley." Jobs has certainly
turned Apple around.

Steve Jobs may be off work at the moment, folks, but that doesn't mean he isn't working. That's right, even after taking a leave of

AppleInsider, Jobs played a big part in the recent iPhone OS 3.0 release, and is apparently working on a tablet-size device, bigger than an iPhone but
smaller than a MacBook. Rumors about an Apple tablet have been flying around for ages, even more so lately, but if sources close to Jobs himself say
he's working on it, then there's a good chance that there's something going on.

28.07.2007Apple finishes with Think Secret, targets Fake Steve Jobs
Apple Incorporated’s lawyers have found a new target: the fake Steve Jobs. Daniel Lyons, a senior editor at Forbes, is the author of the blog
“The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs”, which is written by him in first person, as if it were Jobs himself writing. Most blog entries are
simply little snippets of what’s happening in the tech world, usually completely irrelevant to Jobs or even Apple. The lawyers are, however,
interested in three posts that they “deem to be actionable”. They emphasize, of course, that they don’t want to take any legal
action and that it’s all up to Lyons. Apparently, the lawyers just want to talk about the problem and not actually take anyone to court or send
them a cease-and-desist letter.

23.12.2007Steve Jobs Still Involved in Apple, Still Expected to Return in June
The Wall Street Journal reports that despite his medical leave, Steve Jobs has remained very involved in Apple's strategies and planning:
Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook runs the day-to-day operations at Apple, these people say. But Mr. Jobs has continued to work on the company's
most important strategies and products from home, they say. He regularly reviews products and product plans, and was particularly involved in the user
interface of the new iPhone operating system that Apple unveiled last month, these people say. Apple announced in January that Steve
Jobs would take a medical leave of absence from the company until June and that Tim Cook would take over day-to-day operations.
According
to the Wall Street Journal's sources, Apple remains "much the same" as before Steve Jobs' departure and Jobs is still expected to return to Apple
in June. Jobs reportedly did not respond to requests for comment but Apple spokesman Steve Dowling is quoted as saying "Steve continues to look
forward to returning to Apple at the end of June."
