Review: Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 7000

In the market for a new wireless keyboard and mouse, looking to upgrade from my Microsoft Digital Pro Keyboard, I took a lot at Microsoft's Wireless Laser Desktop 7000. Keyboard and mouse response peripherals are important to all communication between the user and their computer, hoping that Microsoft got it right after mixed reviews on previous keyboard / mouse combos. The Keyboard: The keyboard has the Comfort Curve design keyboard that has a slight bend in the keys to make the feel of typing more comfortable to the user. The keyboard has a small 6 degree bend in the design to help improve typing from the average angle of a users shoulder to keyboard.

IE Automatic Component Activation (Changes to IE ActiveX Update)

Pete LePage: Back in April 2006, we made a change to how Internet Explorer handled embedded controls used on some webpages. Some sites required users to śclick to activateť before they could interact with the control. Microsoft has now licensed the technologies from Eolas, removing the śclick to activateť requirement in Internet Explorer. Because of this, we're removing the śclick to activateť behavior from Internet Explorer!

Its important (and cool) to note that this change will require no modifications to existing webpages, and no new actions for developers creating new pages. We are simply reverting to the old behavior. Once Internet Explorer is updated, all pages that currently require śclick to activateť will no longer require the control to be activated. Theyll just work.

Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 7000 Review

In four words, Microsoft describes their latest desktop mouse as comfortable, wireless, rechargeable, and extraordinary. Has Microsoft ever been wrong?

Even the editors at ExtremeTech who prefer the horsepower of gaming mice couldn't help but humble themselves and like this desktop rodent. They attribute much of the 7000's success to its comfortable design and long feature set (buttons, software hacks, etc.). Sadly, the mouse is for righties only, so southpaws will still have to stick with their symmetrical mouse in the meantime.

Microsoft releases activation exploit detection update

Microsoft has released an update for Windows Vista designed to detect activation exploits that bypass product activation and that interfere with usual Windows operation. This update is tagged as KB940510.

According to Microsoft "when the update is installed, no functionality of your operating system will be affected. If no exploits are detected, the update silently exits. If exploits are detected, you will be provided a link to a Web site that describes how you can remove the exploits. When the exploits are removed, you may be asked to use a valid product key to activate your copy of Windows. If you do not want to remove the exploits, Windows may disable the exploits and then ask you to use a valid product key to activate Windows."

NY family has to pay the RIAA $7,000 after court case

The most loved organization in the world, the RIAA, has won a case against a New York family for illegally downloading music. The case was originally filed against Patricia Santangelo, 46, a mother of five, who resides in Wappingers Falls, N.Y but was later dropped and re-filled against her two sons. Rather than taking the settlement agreement the two sons and mother decided to fight the RIAA and nearly $15,000 was raised by online sympathizers to help fight the industry. The result, nearly 4 years later, is that the family will have to pay $7000.00 for songs downloaded that included "‘MMMBop' by Hanson and ‘Beat It' by Michael Jackson.
