3.9.2008TechSpot: Acer Timeline 14" 4810T Notebook Review
With so many different factors to consider when purchasing a laptop, finding the right one can be a daunting task. Portability and battery life are
the current trends, along with value of course, which has brought about the recent surge of netbooks. However as I've said before -- and I still
stand by the statement -- netbooks are great for simple tasks, but lack the power to be more than a supplement to a real notebook or desktop system.
Today we will be looking at the Acer Timeline 4810T notebook, a 14-inch ultra-portable that aims to bridge the gap between underpowered netbooks and
bulky notebooks, while retaining the battery longevity found in the latest generation of netbooks.

Acer at Computex today
said it would be the first to
produce netbooks using Google's Android platform. Company IT product president Jim Wong expects the systems to appear in the summer and that the
Linux-based systems will still use Intel Atom processors. He didn't provide prices, though the Android netbooks should be less expensive than Windows
versions as Google doesn't charge for licenses where Microsoft asks for $15 for each copy of Windows XP.

28.03.2007Netbook Round-up: Lenovo, Acer, Asus and Smooth Creations
It can't be argued that 2008 was the year of the netbook. Asus is credited with officially bringing the first netbook to market last year with
their Eee PC, but as many first adopters will tell you, companies rarely "get it right" on their first at bat and the Eee PC was no different. A
big second wave of netbooks arrived in mid-2008 and as expected, improvements were made all around. These netbooks offered larger screens capable of
higher resolutions, better storage mediums (either SSD or traditional hard drives), and the option to have Windows XP pre-installed. Today we will
be taking a look at four popular netbooks from four different manufacturers: Lenovo, Acer, Smooth Creations and Asus.

22.12.2008Dell unlikely to be purchasing Acer in their buying spree
Dell's been on a bit of a buying spree recently; according to the head honcho, Michael Dell, they have a 'portfolio of acquisitions' that
they're looking at to help boost earnings, but according to Bloomberg, this is unlikely to include the company Acer. As you may be aware, Acer is
the third largest maker of personal computers, so it would certainly be a valuable purchase, but Brian Gladden (Chief Financial Officer for Dell) says
that, "It would be very low on our list of opportunities." It's expected that Acer may surpass Dell in shipments, but Gladden brushed it off by
stating, "That doesn't bother me at all. Selling netbooks that have zero margin, I'm not excited about.

17.07.2009Acer bets big on Linux
Acer has stated that it will be pushing Linux aggressively on its laptops and netbooks. The company is already heavily promoting Linux for its low
cost ultra-portable netbook range out later this year, but senior staff have said that Acer will also push Linux on its laptops.
Acer has
already started selling Linux in its Media PC business but this should now spread, according to Gianpiero Morbello, vice president of marketing and
brand at Acer. "We have shifted towards Linux because of Microsoft," he said. "Microsoft has a lot of power and it is going to be difficult, but we
will be working hard to develop the Linux market."

01.11.2007HP and Acer Start Netbook Price War
Hewlett-Packard and Acer have lowered prices of their netbooks as the back-to-school sales season kicks into gear in the U.S., offering bargains for
users. Acer slashed prices on its Aspire one netbooks on Friday to as low as US$329 for one version, while HP revealed new prices for Mini-Notes
on its Web site.
Price-cutting by the two big PC vendors could prompt other netbook makers, such as Asustek Computer and Micro-Star
International to follow. Netbooks are mini-laptop PCs designed for mobility, and typically weighing less than 2 kilograms. Most of the components on
board, including the microprocessor, are less powerful than those of full-fledged laptops so batteries last longer. They're designed for Internet
surfing and work on spreadsheets or word processor documents, not for heavy duty gaming, video editing or other multimedia work.

A Video Tour of the MSI Wind and Other Netbooks
UK mobile tech site Mobile Computer has posted a nice 10-minute video that
gives a tour of the MSI Wind, and shows it alongside the two other Intel Atom-powered netbooks, the Acer Aspire One and Asus Eee PC 901. The site also
has photos that show the three netbooks together to give a good idea of the differences in size. The MSI Wind goes on sale today in the UK (a week ahead of the
US) for £350 (around $700). Not cheap for a supposedly low-cost laptop, but the MSI Wind looks like the best of the bunch so far.

Acer installing Linux on notebooks, but not Ubuntu
Acer did not preinstall the
Ubuntu Linux distribution on a
batch of Aspire notebooks for
sale in Singapore, but instead
is installing a different

Memory World (S) Ltd. is

2) memory, an 80GB hard disk,
and a one-year international
warranty.
While Memory World's
offer has attracted attention
outside Singapore for the use
of Ubuntu on a notebook, Acer
did not ship these notebooks
with the Linux distribution
preinstalled, said Ignatius
Beh, a Memory World sales
executive.
"We actually installed it
ourselves," Beh said. Acer
shipped the notebooks to
Memory World with another
version of Linux installed, he
said. ..

Netbooks chewing at Apple, Intel finances?

MacBooks were the only systems not to fit into the new category of mini-notebooks, according to Rakesh.

Windows 7 may be released sometime later this year. With the public release of the release candidate right around the corner, and development towards
the RTM already on track, it's possible that Acer's release date could be true.
