The Search Engine Rountable is reporting that Google has purchased a search ad that is placed above the image result for Michelle Obama. Last Thursday Google removed the image but the image has since returned and Google has purchased a search advert above the image results explaining "search engines are a reflection of the content and information that is available on the Internet." The image has caused a great deal of debate on Google's own support forums.

Future of Android 'Cupcake' update uncertain

A hotly-rumored branch of updates to the Android operating system that goes by the unusual moniker "cupcake" may not be released to the public.

AndroidTapp received a message from the T-Mobile Forums admin which was traced all the way back to Google via T-Mobile's Product Development and PR departments. In the message it said, "According to the Android team, "Cupcake," which is the code name for an Android software build, is still a work in progress that is considered to be a development branch and not for general availability."

While still not more than a rumor, the very existence of the Cupcake branch and its ability to bring video camera functions and an onscreen keyboard to the T-Mobile G1, is still only rumor as well...

Domain name '.eu' open for business

BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) -- The European Union planted its flag in cyberspace Wednesday when the ".eu" Internet domain name opened for business.

Until now, Europeans had to choose between a national domain such as ".fr" for France or a global one like ".com," which is often seen as American.

EU Information Society Commissioner Viviane Reding said she expected several hundred thousand sign-ups for ".eu" in the first few days. National registries in some countries -- such as Belgium, home to the EU headquarters in Brussels -- are offering promotions to persuade Internet users to stay local.

But do Europeans want a ".eu" domain name? Some business groups are uncertain how popular it will be. Europeans have an EU flag, an EU passport and an EU anthem but many have a lukewarm attitude to European integration -- as French and Dutch "no" votes to a new constitution showed this year...

No Windows 7 upgrade option in the EU

Today Microsoft announced the pricing of Windows 7. As previously reported on Neowin, the EU will be getting a version that will not contain IE and because of this Microsoft will be offering no upgrade option in the EU. EU to continue anti-trust case, regardless of Windows 7 E

The recent shenanigans between the EU and Microsoft have been rather tedious; it's taken a long time for anything to happen, really, and Microsoft has even had to cancel a hearing once. However, with the recent introduction of Windows 7 E, many thought that the trouble would be over... but they were wrong. Nope, according to Ars Technica, the EU is still set on pursuing their anti-trust case with the Redmond company, despite them going out of their way to create a new SKU just for the region.
