Mobile gambler PC
Microsoft's Not the Only One Doing Mobile Mail
The same day the beta invites started going out for Windows Live Mail Mobile,
Google launched Gmail Mobile. So far, Gmail Mobile is supporting relatively few cell phones and PDAs and only those in the U.S.. But wider coverage is coming soon, Google claims. And you can get
Gmail Mobile on your Blackberry, too. And speaking of Google, it's sounding like Microsoft's nemesis bested Microsoft in the contest for whose search engine would power Google search, going forward. As part of that deal,
Google reportedly will invest $1 billion in AOL, in exchange for a five percent stake.

T-Mobile Dumps Google, Favours Yahoo!
T-Mobile announced Tuesday that it will soon begin using Yahoo as its preferred mobile search provider in Europe, ending the operator's existing
relationship with Google for mobile search.
The move was seen by many as a minor coup for Yahoo, which is competing with Google and
Microsoft to win the loyalty of a growing number of mobile Internet users. Others noted that mobile search is in its infancy and said the field is
still wide-open.
When T-Mobile signed its original deal with Google, it made headlines as one of the earliest partnerships between a mobile
operator and a search provider.

Yahoo and Virgin Mobile have agreed a deal making Yahoo search the exclusive pre-installed search service for Virgin's 4 million mobile

advertising markets, having lost the battle for dominance in the desktop computer search market, and is spearheading its European efforts in Britain.
"We will continue to focus on investing in this area. It falls squarely within our strategy of indispensable starting points," the head of
Yahoo's mobile operations in Europe, Mitch Lazar, told Reuters by telephone.

Microsoft Focuses on Windows Live Search for Mobile
Microsoft is hoping for
positive growth in its search
market share by announcing
Live Search for Windows
Mobile; Live Search for Java;
and Windows Live for Windows
Mobile at the 3GSM conference
in Barcelona. Users will be
able to search for business
results based on their
location, which means they
won't have to type any text
to get a list of categories of
business types with address
and telephone details and
options for mapping. Live
Search for mobile also uses
global positioning
capabilities to retrieve
suggested routes, Virtual
Earth technology for maps and
directions, and real-time
traffic data for 25 U.S.
cities (green/yellow/red
colour coded).
Windows Mobile (version 6.0
was recently released)
provides many Windows Live
services including WLMail,
WLMessenger, WLSearch and
WLSpaces. Microsoft is
particularly interested in
pushing for software dominance
in the mobile market. One
approach is to put the Live
brand front and center,
promoting Live Search and
Windows Live communication
services on Windows mobile
devices. As well, Live Search
on Windows mobile has features
that aren't available with
Live Search for Java, such as
satellite imagery and the
ability to send search results
to a friend. Steve Berkowitz,
senior vice president of the
Online Services Group at
Microsoft, noted that the
company is committed to
enhancing mobile search for
customers. Microsoft expects
the new products to help
" mobile operators, OEMs,
and advertising partners
access new revenues and
differentiate their
products ."

Google has launched a new version of its Book Search especially for mobile devices. The mobile service could act as a good competitor to products such
as Amazon's Kindle and the Sony Reader, providing free access to books on your existing mobile device for when you're out and about. The only
costs involved are for data transfer, which on most compatible mobile phones is included in your payment plan or is available through a WiFi
connection. 1.5 millions books have been made available to users of the service in the US, with 500,000 titles available elsewhere around the world.

Microsoft Live Search targets iPhone
Microsoft's Live Search team hasn't been ignoring the iPhone, despite Google's position as the default search provider for Apple's mobile device.
In the MacRumors forums last week, the Live Search team was
touting a new mobile version for the iPhone.
But there's a catch: Rather than releasing an iPhone app, the Redmond company's
search group has tuned its mobile site for the iPhone's Safari browser. The approach means that, even on the Live
Search page on the iPhone, the first thing most users see is the Google search field in the browser frame.
