03.07.2008100 Gb/s Internet2 completed
At its Fall 2007 member meeting, the Internet 2 consortium announced that its updated infrastructure is ready to go online and provide an initial
capacity of 100 Gb/s to researchers and educators.
The blazingly fast network connection was demonstrated for the first time when
the organization established a connection between the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) and Fermilab in Batavia, IL and was able to transfer a
third of a terabyte within five minutes over a 10 GB/s connection.
Internet 2 is often confused with a next-generation Internet
infrastructure for the public. However, the Internet 2 is limited to currently 207 connected universities that use the high-speed network as
infrastructure to quickly exchange data and test new technologies that one day could find their way into the public Internet.

15.02.2007T-Mobile Service Lets Users Talk at Home Without Using Minutes
T-Mobile USA Inc., encouraging
customers to drop their
home-phone connections,
introduced a mobile-phone
service that allows
subscribers to talk at home
without using up their
allotted minutes.
The
company uses a wireless
Internet technology called
Wi-Fi to offer the service.
When a subscriber brings a
phone into the house, the
device automatically switches
from T-Mobile's voice network
to the Wi-Fi connection in the
home, where phone use no
longer counts against the
customer's calling plan.
T-Mobile, Deutsche Telekom
AG's U.S. unit, expects to
win subscribers by convincing
them they don't need
home-phone lines. Larger
rivals AT&T Inc. and Verizon
Wireless, both affiliated with
traditional U.S. phone
companies, have taken the
opposite approach by offering
packages of wireless and
home-phone service. ..

from home network to work or public network. This feature partially worked in build 7048, but works pretty neat in the recent 7057 build.

10.06.2008At last, a bridge between Windows Home Server and Media Center
With this week's release of Power Pack 2 for Home Server, Microsoft is filling a very important gap. Up until recently, the company had been
maintaining that the place for users to store videos and multimedia was on their Media Center computers (generally Windows Vista Ultimate-based
systems), and the place for their "everyday files" was their Home Server. But the biggest and most cumbersome "everyday files" are multimedia
files, including those that deserve to be streamed and accessed by Media Center. While setting up Media Center to include a Home Server folder as one
of its "watch folders" is one option for getting files listed, that's not as rich as setting up a streaming connection...
