15.5.2008Vista did not sell only 244 Copies in China
Microsoft says that a report
that it sold only 244 copies
of Vista in China in the first
two weeks is just plain wrong,
the Softies say. "Recent
speculation regarding sales
data in China is inaccurate,"
Microsoft said in response to
an inquiry from CNET News.com.
"We're pleased with the
positive consumer response
we've seen around the globe
to the security and usability
enhancements in Windows
Vista--and China is no
exception." Microsoft
wouldn't totally clear things
up by saying just how many
copies it has sold in China,
but it did say the first
month's sales of boxed Vista
copies in China were double
those XP had in its first
month.

05.07.2006Microsoft Cuts Vista Price By Over 50% in China
Microsoft has more than halved
the retail price of its Vista
operating system in China.
The Home Basic edition
dropped from $201 (1,521
yuan) to $66, and the Home
Premium package dropped from
$238 to $118. The move
was effective as of
Wednesday.
The
price cut is the company's
latest effort to tackle the
rampant software piracy in
China, according to The Wall

that if legitimate software
costs less, people will be
less likely to turn to pirated
versions.
Microsoft
had sold 60 million Windows
Vista licenses globally by the
end of June, including 20
million copies sold since
mid-May, the company said last
month.

Microsoft Readies 50% Price Cut for Windows Vista ... in China
Microsoft is cooking healthy
price cuts for its latest
operating system, Windows
Vista. The price tag for the
Home Edition of Vista will be
cut in half. But the
additional editions of the
platform will not be
overlooked by the discounts.
While the piece of news was
not confirmed directly by
Microsoft it apparently came
from 8844.com, a Beijing
Federal Software online
software distributor,
according to Interfax
. The only catch to the Vista
price drop is that it will be
valid only for China. And
while Vista Home Basic will be
sold at half the price, the
remaining editions of the
operating system will
apparently receive 10% off.
"Microsoft
is going to announce the price
drop this afternoon,"
revealed Zan Xiaoqin, a
representative of 8844.com.
"The home edition of Vista
will now sell at RMB 499
($66), about half the previous
price. Meanwhile, the prices
of the business and ultimate
editions will also drop about
10 percent."
Microsoft's move comes on
the heels of the largest
takedown of a software
counterfeiting syndicate
located in the southern
Chinese province of Guangdong.
Backing efforts from the FBI
and Chinas Public Security
Bureau, Microsoft applauded
the shutdown of a global
bootlegged software
manufacturing and distributing
business worth an estimated $2
billion. And while sales of
pirated copies of Windows
Vista are increasing,
legitimate licenses of the
operating system in China are
gathering dust on store
shelves...

Microsoft: 88 Million Copies of Vista Shipped
Despite frequent reports of Windows Vista being a failure, Microsoft Corporation has now shipped 88 million copies of its latest operating system,
almost double the number of copies of XP in the same amount of time at its launch. CFO Chris Liddell credited strong sales in emerging markets, due in
part to anti-piracy and legalization programs there. Microsoft had previously said that it had shipped 20 million copies of Vista in its first month,
40 million copies of Vista in the first 100 days, and 60 million in late July.
Three-quarters of the copies sold of Vista were Home Premium
editions. The 88 million figure mostly includes Vista-installed PCs bought by consumers and small businesses, as well as packaged copies of Vista sold
in stores or online. It does exclude the tens of millions of Windows corporate volume licenses. There, many enterprises continue to hold off on
deploying Vista, acknowledged CFO Chris Liddell, though he expects them to start deploying it when Vista Service Pack 1 arrives in the first quarter
of next year. Nevertheless, revenue from companies renewing their volume licenses for Windows, which gives them the right to upgrade to Vista, was up
27%.

Microsoft: Windows Vista sales "rapid" at 140m copies
Microsoft chair Bill Gates today noted at a European news conference that sales of Windows Vista have reached 140 million copies worldwide. The update
is the first since the company crossed the 100 million mark at the start of the new year, although Gates doesn't clarify when the company reached
the newer threshold. This demonstrates that Vista continues to sell at a "very rapid" rate, according to the Microsoft co-founder.
If
tracked between January and April, the number represents about 10 million copies of Vista sold per month in the first third of 2008 and signals a
slight increase in the sales rate for the operating system, which averaged at just over 9 million copies sold per month in 2007. However, the sales
rate is half that of the Windows update's initial results in the first two months of its launch, when it sold as many as 20 million copies per
month to cater to early demand.

40 Million Copies Of Vista Sold
WinHEC 2007:
As of
last week, Microsoft had sold
40 million copies of Windows
Vista, according to company
Chairman Bill Gates.
Gates released
the latest Vista sales figures
during his May 15 morning
keynote at the Windows
Hardware Engineering
Conference (WinHEC) in Los
Angeles. Gates said Vista is
still selling at two times the
rate of Windows XP. He also
said that Vista has four times
the number of drivers
available for it as XP did
when Microsoft launched that
product in 2001.
There are a number
of Vista-focused sessions
slated for this week's
WinHEC. Microsoft officials
will be emphasizing the
take-up of the Vista platform
during its first 100 days of
availability at the
conference.
Note: Endpoint
Technologies Associates
analyst Roger Kay quotes that
the 40 million is the number
of copies Microsoft sold to
the channel, not the number of
copies sold by the channel and
directly to customers.
