Microsoft's new operating system won't be out until late 2006, but here's a look at some of the new security features expected.
It seems that every time I sit down with Microsoft to discuss Windows Vista, something has been changed or added, which is good. In some cases, something has been removed, which is bad. One and a half years from launch, I understand that beta code changes frequently. Here's my standard disclaimer: the following article is based on the last build from Microsoft, Windows Vista build 5219, released September 2005.

23.07.2008Windows Server 2008 is 20% faster than Vista
It seems Microsoft may have a successor (or replacement) for Vista after all and it’s already been released. Windows Server 2008 isn’t
easy to configure as a desktop operating system but when done correctly can be 20% faster than Vista while retaining most of the same features.
Windows Workstation 2008 is not a product sold by Microsoft and must be configured from a copy of Windows Server 2008. It seems this version
of Windows lacks the “bloat” that is part of Vista. However, I am not sure what the author is referring to (but is likely talking about
unnecessary services). Of course this version of Windows was designed with developers in mind who covet speed above all else. Workstation 2008
includes IIS and Hyper-V for creating virtual machines.
A
Microsoft
employee and
third party website have created tutorials on how to
use Windows Server 2008 as a desktop operating system. This is what I’ve been referring to as Windows Workstation 2008. Keep in mind that this
will have the same driver problems as Vista does, meaning, if a Vista driver doesn’t exist for a piece of hardware you still won’t be able
to use it with Server or Workstation 2008.

04.02.2009Vista is Watching You
Are you using Windows Vista?
Then you might as well know
that the licensed operating
system installed on your
machine is harvesting a
healthy volume of information
for Microsoft.
In
this context, a program such
as the Windows Genuine
Advantage is the last of your
concerns. In fact, in excess
of 20 Windows Vista features
and services are hard at work
collecting and transmitting
your personal data to the
Redmond company.
Microsoft makes no secret
about the fact that Windows
Vista is gathering
information. End users have
little to say, and no real
choice in the matter. The
company does provide both a
Windows Vista Privacy
Statement and references
within the End User License
Agreement for the operating
system. Combined, the
resources paint the big
picture over the extent of
Microsoft's end user data
harvest via Vista.

- The Superbar
- Gestures and Panning (for use on touch screens)
- Desktop Slideshows
Please note two things:
1. This application does NOT back up any of the files it patches, so to be safe, you will need to back up these files:
WindowsExplorer.exe
WindowsSystem32wisptis.exe
WindowsSystem32ieframe.dll
WindowsSystem32shell32.dll
WindowsSystem32stobject.dll
WindowsSystem32TabletPC.cpl
WindowsSystem32themecpl.dll
WindowsSystem32themeui.dll
WindowsSystem32powercfg.cpl
-----------
2. This application IS compatible
with systems currently running the superbar who want to extend their desktop to allow the three other features.

When choosing a new operating system, the first thing many people ask is, "What will it help me do?" In answer, much of this site shows you the
great experiences Windows Vista helps you have. The second thing many people say is, "Prove that it's better." In particular, many of you have
asked about performance and safety improvements. The following information provides specific proof that Windows Vista is faster and safer.
- The
majority of Windows Vista-based PCs boot in less than a minute, which can be an improvement over Windows XP boot times. And the new Windows Vista
sleep and resume features can bring your PC to life in a snapin fact, the vast majority of all Windows Vista-based PCs resume from sleep in less than
6 seconds.
- PCs running Windows Vista that are equipped with 512 MB memory experience a performance boost of up to 40 percent with Windows

20.01.200818 Features Windows Should Have (but doesn't)
Some of the coolest OS features are nowhere to be found in Windows XP or Vista. Here are 18 brilliant features that Microsoft should beg for, borrow,
or steal--plus tips on how you can add many of them to your PC now. Love it or hate it, Microsoft Windows is the world's most dominant operating
system. But when you look at some of the hot features found in competitors such as Linux and Mac OS X, both XP and Vista can seem a little
incomplete.
From intuitive interface features like Apple's application dock and Cover Flow to basic media capabilities such as ISO
burning, Windows often falls short on built-in goodies. And some features that other operating systems offer by default-- such as 64-bit processing
and business-networking tools--require a premium-version license in Windows.
We took a good look at a variety of OSs, from the Mac to Linux
to PC-BSD and beyond, and we rounded up a list of our favorite features--few of which come standard in any version of Windows. We even considered some
operating systems of yore, and recalled a couple of cool features that Microsoft still hasn't caught on to. Some of these features simply
aren't available for Windows at all, owing to the way the OS is designed. But you can add most of them to XP or Vista with the help of third-party
applications, and we'll show you how to get them.
