Dell's Mini 10v netbook that was launched last week has some nice new upgrades, including "wireless improvements" according to Betanews, but one
thing that users shouldn't expect is the latest version of Ubuntu, 9.04, or even version 8.10. The netbook is currently being sold running Ubuntu
8.04 standard, but in an email that Dell sent to Betanews, they believed that installing the newest version is not in the best interest of the
mainstream users. Dell has stated two main reasons for sticking with the older version. A Dell spokesperson said, "We are trying to stay on a
12-month cadence to keep costs down, and build a stable platform.

our solutions both down into smaller form factors and lower notebook price points," said Dirk Meyer, AMD's president and CEO, during a Thursday

called netbook, category grew at more than 160% quarter-on-quarter in the third quarter of 2008 as most of the top tier PC brands have now entered the
market. Asustek Computer, which had essentially created the market in late 2007, lost significant share as Acer surged to the top spot, capturing more
than 35% of this market. In 2007, this market was less than one million units. By the end of 2008, DisplaySearch expects this market to surge to more
than 14 million units.

10.12.2008Microsoft confirms no Windows 7 restrictions on netbooks
Microsoft announced that they have removed the netbook restrictions that previously prevented users from installing any version of Windows 7 on their
netbook. The lifted restriction means users can install Windows 7 starter on a netbook, and that the three application restriction has been removed
as per consumer's request. "OEMs and ODMs have the choice to install any version of Windows on a netbook," a Microsoft UK spokesperson said.
"
Starter is an entry version and doesn't have many of the consumer or business features. The three application limit isn't there
anymore." Windows 7 Starter and Home Basic variety only come in 32bit versions and are missing a variation of features from the higher end versions.
