21.11.2009Google Chrome OS available for download
When Google finally showed off their new OS yesterday there was a lot of skepticism about working in the cloud, offline applications and many other
thoughts and concerns. The good news is that if you don't want to read others hands on impressions you can now download and install the OS
yourself. A couple of things to note, firstly the download will only work in a VM environment, second, this is pre-beta software so expect crashes,
bumps and a rough experience. But if you're willing to take the plunge you can follow the directions here.

18.11.2009Google Chrome extensions imminent
Techcrunch is reporting that it appears Google Chrome is about to receive it's long awaited extensions - the latest builds of Chrome - including
the Windows, Mac and Linux builds are showing various links to a "extensions gallery" at Google.com which doesn't exist. In the new builds, a
jigsaw piece appears next to the theme gallery button - if you click it, it'll send you right back to google.com, but if you hover over it, the
link it shows it goes to https://chrome.google.com/extensions - presumably where the new gallery will be hosted. Next to the jigsaw piece is a bubble
that says "New!

Google aims to speed up the entire Internet with SPDY
There are many aspects of technology that can be tweaked in order to speed a user's Internet experience up; web pages optimized, purchase a faster
connection, or even just update software. Google has apparently bypassed all this, however… they aim to replace the HTTP protocol itself, with
SPDY. As the Google blog post reminds us, "HTTP is an elegantly simple protocol that emerged as a web standard in 1996 after a series of
experiments." It's been great so far, though with initial tests of SPDY (pronounced "speedy"), it shows that it can definitely be improved.

Google Latitude now uses location history and smarter alerts
Google is announcing an update to its Latitude service, which will allow users to see not just where they are at the moment, but where they have been
in the past. Google Latitude allows users to share their location with their friends, from either a computer or supported mobile devices. According
to articles by Techspot and Techradar, the new update will allow users to see how long they have spent in a particular area, and even replay their
previous journeys with the use of Google Earth or Google Maps, when used with Google Location History. Those concerned about privacy will be pleased
to hear it is switched off by default, and any data stored is not shared with friends.

in parts of the U.S., Asia, and Europe. Sales numbers for these products have not been made available, but the gadgets have so far failed to gain
major attention.

Google introduces new 'Go' programming language
Search, mail, mobile operating systems, advertising and mapping. These are all areas in which Google plays a big part. The company is ever expanding,
however, and today they've demonstrated that: Google has just introduced an entirely new programming language, taking influences from C++ and
Python, called, quite simply, Go. The language, which has a website here, "combines the development speed of working in a dynamic language like
Python with the performance and safety of a compiled language like C or C++," according to the blog post made by Google. To give you a sample of the
code, courtesy of TechCrunch, here is a simple 'Hello, World!' program. 05 package main 07 import fmt "fmt" // Package implementing
formatted I/O.

Google apps getting the wave treatment
Earlier this week, Engadget received a set of images from an anonymous insider at Google showing a quick insight into the potential future of
Google's web applications - with a hint of wave. It looks very much like a work in progress, but a change such as this is needed. The pictures
show a unified UI across all Google applications - including Google search, GMail and Google Contacts - which is a very similar UI to Google Wave -
which is more than welcome. Engadget was told that "the goal is to provide a consistent experience throughout all Google Apps and blur the line
between the browser and the website (e.g.

Google has released its rumored music service and it's not quite what everyone was expecting. Most were expecting, or wanting, a service similar
to what Google offers in China. In China, Google offers free music because piracy has nearly killed all legitimate music sales. Google has rolled
its music service into its OneBox offerings. When a user searches for a song the "simple design brings up to four songs to the top of search
results. Once one is clicked on, the song will play on pop-up players from MySpace or Lala.

Google to introduce a Google Wave app store
Google's upcoming 'Google Wave' communication platform is an interesting one; it's currently in testing, but it's arguably one of
the most discussed online services this year. It's now been announced that it will even be getting its own app store, to help provide some more

"an extension store is planned where developers would be able to display and charge for apps." This app store would help provide a bit of momentum
for the service upon its public release, and it would be of benefit to developers also.
