Postby Harvdeez » Thu Feb 14, 2008 7:28 am

:x This is driving me crazy, I updated my vista ultimate this morning, it restarted and came back with:

Booting 'Windows Vista'

acpi
Vista Loader 2.1.2

ACPI: Reclaim Memory not found!
Done!
fallback 1
find --set-root /bootmgr

Error 17: File not found
Booting 'Windows NT/2000/XP'

fallback 2
find --set-root /ntldr

Error 17: File not found
Booting 'Enter Command Line'

Boot failed! Press and key to enter command line.

after you hit any key something about grub> comes up

I have tried to "Repair" and "Restore" with a Vista DVD and no luck.... can anyone help... and ps... Im new to this stuff I would really appriciate any kind of help

Same happened to me

Postby thoufiq » Thu Feb 14, 2008 10:04 am

I do the windows update yesterday, and restarted well after update is finished, later i shutdown my HP Laptop yesterday night, when i started back vista today morning i get the same error,

i tried all options (repair startup, retore, memory diag) from repair windows using vista DVD, but no luck.

any how i took a backup of important file from the command prompt.

I also tried to reinstall, but the setup shows "Upgrade option is disabled", and allows to install only clean copy.

Can anyone tell, Clean installation will solve the issue?

Please help if any one come across this issue.

Regards
thoufiq

The solution:
Boot with your Vista dvd,
1) click on 'Repair your computer'
2) click on 'Command Prompt'
In the dos prompt
type c: validate
type attrib -h -s -r grldr validate
type del grldr validate
3) click on 'Restart'

Now Vista Loader is gone!

This did it

Postby kingdred » Thu Feb 14, 2008 6:36 pm

1. Insert your Windows Vista Install DVD and boot from it.
2. After selecting your language options choose the “Repair your computer” option in the bottom left corner.
3. Select your Windows Vista Installation and continue (note: my screenshot does not show an installed OS because there is none).
4. Open a new Command Prompt window
5. When command prompt is open, type the following commands (note: my screenshot shows an error as vista is not installed)
1. Bootrec /fixboot
2. Bootrec /fixmbr

big-up the following,

Is Vista Loader located on the main partition c: ?
type attrib
if you don't see grldr, this file is located in another partition.
ex: grldr is located on partition d:

type d:
type attrib -h -s -r grldr
type del grldr
