Windows 7 vs. Ubuntu 9.10 - Strengths and weaknesses
section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 30.10.2009
Tip: Click here to update all your PC's outdated driversOver the past few days I’ve been thinking quite a bit about the differences between Microsoft’s latest Windows 7 and Canonical’s Ubuntu 9.10.
Specifically, I’ve been thinking about the strengths and weaknesses of each of the operating systems. Is a free operating system really as good as one that you pay for?
Let’s take a look at several aspects of using operating systems and examine the various strengths and weaknesses of each OS.
Installation
Windows 7
* Pros
- Install is quick, easy and painless.
- After working through a few wizard screens at the beginning, the install is automatic
* Cons
- None really
Ubuntu 9.10
* Pros
- Option to “try before you install” using the Live CD feature
- Can easily install as a dual boot or even inside Windows using the Wubi installer
* Cons
- Unless you’re luck to get a CD, you do have to mess about with .ISO files and burn a disc. If you’re happy doing that, it’s not really a problem.

ubuntu sucs cos it is a pain in the ass to find drivers, who the hell has time to read
forum to find drivers. windows works just fine thank you.
windows is for those without the ability to think. ubuntu is for those that can still
think (at least a little).
an os is to use not to have to study or think. win 7 wins
ubuntu is so gay for stingy people haa
ubuntu is great but there are still useability problems.cus of the breadth of usage you
can always get stuff to work with windows where i have to fiddle with ubuntu. i have 7 on
my entertainment pc and ubuntu on the others..
windows 7 for dumb n brainless fools, ubuntu for people with brains and who don't mind
gathering knowledge for a little pain....
but lol i use windows 60% and ubuntu
40%...
that two os cannot compare you
all of ya,seriously...
i want to play games, out of the box without messing around, otherwise who cares if u run
win7/winxp or ubuntu.
i like them both.
for guys who have a lot of time to lose for nothing (compiling, trying to install driver
for hours,depencies, always to enter in root mode just to make a little something,
spending hours in terminal to make something)
if you like to always tape commands
instead of controling everything with the mouse, go to ubuntu...
it is not for
people who thinks.it is for stupid people who enjoys getting fuc*d up for hours.
my friend bought win7 to win after installation he found no driver for usb 3g modem. now
he is without internet and searching for driver at work. so whom to blame ?
umm..ok, so what are some differences? all this touches on is just a little about the
install... ,so, the point of the article is...???
windows 7 installs better so it's the best!
"my friend bought win7 to win after installation he found no driver for usb 3g modem.
now he is without internet and searching for driver at work. so whom to blame ?"
um, the manufacturer of the modem is to blame.
this counts as journalism? i've seen more analysis in banner ads.
lame.
ubuntu definitely try it very good can do almost anything drivers are not as big a
problem as in the old days.
this is a stupid question. market share proves which side is better. question answered.
i installed ubuntu 8.04 , upgraded to 8.10 then to 9.04.
never had to find a
driver,wouldn't know how to anyway.
it just works for me.
have a
nice day.
im using ubuntu since first release,its great even for gaming.still,dualboot win7 for
just 1 game...if it work on ubuntu just as good as it does on win ..
