Never recovered from Vista
section: windows, for your questions: KezNews forum, 6.10.2009
Tip: Click here to update all your PC's outdated driversAs Microsoft prepares for the release of Windows 7, CEO Steve Ballmer admits that the company’s reputation has never recovered from the launch of Vista.
Mr Ballmer said: “We got some uneven reception when [Vista] first launched in large part because we made some design decisions to improve security at the expense of compatibility. I don’t think from a word-of-mouth perspective we ever recovered from that.”
There you have it. Confirmation of what most of us knew already … that the Vista name was mud.
Turning bad news into good though, Ballmer now believes that there’s “pent up demand” for new gear:
“I’d be hopeful that we see a bit more rapid pick-up - particularly people who are upgrading the software without touching the hardware - than maybe we have in years past.”
This is the rub. The people that Windows 7 really needs to appeal to are those millions of entrenched XP users who don’t see a reason to switch OSes. These people are going to be much harder to convince to switch than people who’ve already made the switch to Vista.

windows 7 ain't nothing more than vista with lipstick. all you intel fanboys will like
it..... but w7 still has the same problems as vista and has even more problems than
vista. i'll stick with xp until they can make something that works.
i tried to leave microsoft a complement. bit this site blocked it and would nt let
me.whats with this ???????
there you are. why. big, costly and xp pro works great. why get vista 2.0 beta
vista was crap to many probs
win 7 is a lot better...
i have had zero problems with vista, had x64 version since day 1 and no problems
whatsoever
but sure it's slow if you don't have the hardware to run it
agreed. w7 is a lot better than vista... but still that "copy" function is slow as
hell! why on earth couldn't that have been fixed?
zombywoof - have you even tried using windows 7 or are you just jumping to conclusions
there? ill admit vista pre sp1 was a major turd, but windows 7 is not even in the same
category! if you want to hate on vista, thats fine...it earned that reputation, but at
least give 7 a chance...in this case ms learned a great deal from their mistakes with
vista...
vista 64 sp2 is pretty damn good. when it first came out there were problems with the
drivers, but ever since sp2 it has improved. i wont be jumping on the windows 7 bandwagon
vista x64 sp2 is very solid os. it works fast on my laptop and i did not notice any bugs
at all so i don't see any reasons to upgrade to seven.
win xp is ok , vista not, win7 nice but unix is best ;)
bing, all i can say is: here here
and whats also funny, half of these people never used vista and are just going by what
others says, which is a bunch of crap. try it for yourself before you judge, and if its
that bad for you, look at your hardware first.!
i have installed windows 7 enderprise ed, to an amd athlon 900mz with 512 dimm ram and
geforce2mx vga. although i had warnings that the system is way low of specs it is working
excelent. no aero of cource. but as i said it is working. i am impressed. although i know
that 7 is vista sp3 . i stil i do not understand why microsoft chose to destroy their rep.
definetly i am eager to upgrade my vista ultimate laptop to windows 7 ultimate. but
microsoft does for second time heuge mistake with the upgrading prices. 200 euros for
upgrading is too much money. they should offer free upgrading for vista machines. haven't
we suffer alot?
at least to admit that.

i've
been using windows 7 since before it was a beta. it's better than vista, but it is still
quite buggy. actually, i using win7 now on another hard drive. but xp is still the best
imo. i'm going to wait until win7 sp1 to make a final decision whether it's worth while
for me to use it. as of this point, i see nothing special that w7 has over vista to make
me use win7 (other than xp is getting up their in years).
why do the retarded insist on talking? win 7 is nothing like vista. i know because,
unlike these retards, i actually used them both. in fact i'm using 7 right now on an acer
aspire one netbook with no problems at all. you can't run vista on a netbook.
was an xp fanboy before. but i changed to vista and so to windows 7 and i love windows
7!!!!!!
there is also a type of chicken called a vista, but in the case of the os it was more of
a turkey instead. i had wanted to like vista when i bought it, but there was just way too
much wrong with it. it was far too late by the time the service packs came out. win 7 is
great...
btw, blaming one's hardware is also retarded because win 7 shows just how ridiculous
that is. face it, vista was just a piece of crap.
why does every windows 7 article have to turn into an xp vs vista vs 7 thread? use it,
and make up your own god damn mind.
tiny vista runs faster and smoother than windows 7 on my 4yr old pc
i tweaked the hell out of vista and got it working ok. just too much shit loaded into
that os. 7 is a stripped down version of vista (reverse engineering) microsoft stole from
itself. no ms isn't hurting. have you seen steve ballmers yaht
vista was just fine. yeah it had its issues but so did xp when it launched so did win95,
and so did win98.
eventually xp became more tuned, and worked fine, so
comparing a new os like vista with xp which is years old is not on equal footing. compare
vista to xp at launch.
windows 7 is vista with knobs on.. its essentially vista
sp4.. all of which i have used and have had no problems...i'd never going back to win xp!
christ! xp was slower than win98 and had compatibility issues, so should we
have all been usin win 98 with dos??
i think ms screwed themselves in a wat because of their offering a new pc purchaser a
choice to stay with xp. xp is based on the nt kernel and was substantially different from
98 and me. yet ms "shoved" xp down our throats, and we accepted it. i've used vista for
a good year and hated the thing. i would happily pay ms for the win 7 rc 7100 i'm running
now, it blows vista away.
what a stupid non argumented comments once in a while here...keznews is for kidz only? my
advise: use linux and leave a windows site alone! go to your own 5% of linux users
worldwide!
(some spell errors may occurrrrr)
a few years back the same arguements were against the xp os when it was released, many
wouldnt change but they did, hardware and all.
vista is good
7 is best
mark these words. i will never switch to an os that is more bloated than xp which is
perfect.
why change something that aint broke?
you people who down windows 7 need to get use to the fact that as technology advances so
does the software. your only saying that you'll stay on xp because thats all your pc can
handle. i know for a fact that if i run windows xp on my computer, it will start up and
respond alot slower than windows 7 will. by the way, i received the legal copy of windows
7 ultimate via the houseparty offer and it is really high quality stuff. running 64-bit
with no problems, highly recommend.
to put it simply, windows 2000 is 5.0, xp
is 5.1, vista is 6.0 and 7 is 6.1. so essentially, going by everyones logic, we should all
still be on windows 3.1 because 95,98,me,2000 etc was to buggy when it was released. one
last thing, i'd like to see you code an os kernel.
kudos to microsoft, very
happy with windows 7.
i know you all wished the oposite!!!
but this is the thruth :d
it suits my needs very well just don't feel any need to change so i'll stay with it...
