Free Software Foundation trashes Windows 7

Tip: Click here to update all your PC's outdated driversAnd that's exactly what the Free Software Foundation plans to do on Wednesday, staging a demonstration in Boston where it will encourage businesses to throw away Microsoft Windows in favor of free alternatives.
In addition to the public display, the foundation is sending letters to the CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, warning that Windows is a threat to their businesses' privacy, security, and freedom.
Although the demonstration and letter center around Microsoft's imminent release of Windows 7, Free Software Foundation Executive Director Peter Brown says the protest has to do with Microsoft's approach in general and not with the specifics of Windows 7.
"Any time Microsoft tries to push them to a new version, it's a good time to make that case," Brown said in a telephone interview on Tuesday.
With Windows 7 getting fairly positive reviews, Brown said he knows it could be tougher to garner public support than was the case with the oft-criticized Vista.
"There's kind of this attitude of 'Well, it's better than Vista,'" Brown said, "so we are kind of working against the grain."
But, he said, the stakes are high--and it's about more than just which operating system gains market share. Brown points to Amazon.com's recent deletion of e-books from the Kindle as an example of the kinds of action that could become commonplace if the world becomes more filled with digital rights management technologies.
"That's the kind of power that proprietary software gives to these corporations," he said. "When we give that power, sooner or later somebody comes knocking, whether it is the government or the corporations themselves. Free software is kind of the answer to that."

free software foundation enjoys swimming, tennis, working with handicapped children and
wishes for world peace...
...everyone give her a round of applause!
i believe this digital rights crap is that, crap. i now cant run raid on this 500.00
server board because the raid drivers from asus arent digitally signed. nvidia 680i
chipset drivers are old and dont work with windows 7. and no vista x64 raid drivers dont
work. they are digitally signed for vista x64 not 7 x64.
how come do they want companies to throw off windows and switch to open source if they
are advocating freedom? aren't they violating the freedom of choice of companies? i think
these companies read: chose to use windows. this foundation should stop messing with
freedom, rights, and choices of the companies. period.
i had no problem installing vista x64 signed drivers in windows 7 x64, after all, it's
the same driver model. anyway, there is utitlities to disable the digital signature
enforcement in windows 7, of course that could make the system a little unstable, but
that's the driver fault..
hey blizz, give this a try
(http://www.speedguide.net/files/vista/setupreadydriverplus.exe), used it to disable
driver signing on my win 7 7600, works like a charm!! only reason i was able to move from
xp/win7 dual-doot over to win 7 as my main os, love it!!!
lets see, what os would be free? windows, no. osx, no. oh yea, linux.
he sounds
like just a linux salesman. but you get what you pay for.
i think i will pay for the
universal compatibilty, devices that work, and a os that comes from a company that will be
here tomorrow. unlike linux distros that come and go with various levels of hardware
compatibilty (yes i know i can't spell)
